Though person can develop same characteristics in other ways, liberal arts education provides great support and shows the best possible way.
Liberal arts education helps to build personality by providing essential skills. One of the main skills is the ability to learn how to think. Though it may seem not as important, it is considered one of the fundamentals of liberal arts education, as it is more about the way of thinking instead of knowledge. The main purpose of this is to become self-aware and watch the world from other perspectives. This will help to choose from many sources what is right and what is wrong, as closed minded people will only tend to see whatever they do want to see,

By looking at all skills it helps to develop, it can be seen that it develops the “ethical mind” (Gardner, 2006), so it helps to remove academic dishonesty from person’s characteristics. A person always tries to do everything in an easy way, when he does not see a moral of doing it in a hard way, so it leads to academic dishonesty, which, in case of not doing steps against it, can be developed and change the behavior to worse. What liberal art education does, is to give awareness, with which a person can determine why he needs to do that job, and why he should not do academic dishonesty. It helps to understand whether the job a person is going to do worth the effort, maybe instead of doing academic dishonesty he just do not need to do the job. So, liberal arts education helps to see what is in the heart, and use the mind as a servant, instead of being the slave of it, as “mind is a good servant but a terrible master”. (Wallace,

The approach taken by Gregory, Logan, and Curry gives a very strong case for why Christians should pursue a liberal education. Robert Harris, a renowned writer and experienced professor, published “On the Purpose of a Liberal Art Education” in 1991. He was astounded by how many students he heard mumbling about a generalized education plan; therefore, he felt the compulsive need to explain why a general education not only gives a first-year student a foundation for later learning, but also improves a student’s life. Before Harris could write his paper, he had to investigate the claim; thus, Newman’s The Idea of University shaped Harris's opinion on a liberal education. Newman and Harris both agree that a generalized education helps train the mind to see culture in every situation. Moreover, this article states that a liberal arts education will teach a student how to think, how to learn, how to see the world as a whole, how to become a good teacher, and how to be happier.…

In the most recent debates regarding higher education, a particular issue of whether a liberal arts education can benefit students is relentless. While most people directly connect a liberal arts education to a bright future in terms of a career, others argue against that. On one hand, Sanford J. Ungar strongly believes that despite some hardships that come along with college, everyone should take the opportunity to go. On the other hand, Charles Murray, Stephanie Owen, and Isabel Sawhill suggest that it can depend in terms of money and only those that are academically capable and enjoy learning should attend college. My view is that although some students…

Liberal arts are defined as “college or university studies (as language, philosophy, literature, abstract science) intended to provide chiefly general knowledge and to develop general intellectual capacities (as reason and judgment) as opposed to professional or vocational skills.” (Merriam-Webster). Wallace however argues that a liberal arts education means being conscious about your thoughts, and having some sense of control over them and the experience you’ll gain from them. That could mean exercising control over what you think, and changing it to benefit more people than just…

When a person graduates from liberal arts education, he/she will get a gratifying job that will make him/her feel like he/she has a strong personality. Needle, Corbo, Wong, Greenfeder et al (2007) point out that liberal arts education is a good choice for the future to have more options for jobs, which they expressed in their article “Combining Arts and Science In ‘Arts and Sciences’ Education” published in the journal College Teaching on pages 114-120. The purpose of the article is to persuade us to study the liberal arts for a good life. The article has a positive tone because it is optimistic. The mode of the article is illustrative. The main idea of the article is to encourage people to study liberal arts because it can give them a better future. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, liberal arts curriculum is divided into three main branches which are humanities, physical and biological sciences and mathematics, and the social sciences (liberal arts, 2017). Even so, the English classes that I have taken are Introduction to University Writing, Expository Writing, and English Composition 2; each of these required writing essays and research papers.
