The supreme court established that the Bill Of Rights did not apply to state governments. Therefore, the supreme court ruled that state governments are not bound by the bill of rights. Another court case that also help establish selective incorporation is Gitlow V. New York because the supreme court ruled that state and local governments had no right to limit freedom of speech. The result of this rulings over time has limited the rights of states in the united states of America to make laws that could or will limit the privileges granted to citizen in the constitution.
