The outer layer of our forebrain consists of the cerebral cortex. The cerebral cortex is so significant since it controls our ability to learn and store complex and abstract information. Also, it is our control and information processing center. The cerebral cortex consists of many interconnected neurons that are quite useful. The cerebral cortex covers the frontal lobe. This lobe is so important because it controls our organization, planning, and creative thinking. The frontal lobe is also in control of the planning of movements and working memory (events that happened very recently). The cerebral cortex and the frontal lobe help explain human behavior and overall human cognitive and physical functioning because they show the areas that …show more content…
They both show where we organize our thoughts so that if someone does not think straight scientist can probably guess that there is damage to their frontal lobe or damage to the neurons in the cerebral cortex. The frontal lobe and the cerebral cortex help scientists, doctors, and the public have a better understanding as to why some people do not act the same as others. In an article recently released it shows the importance of the cerebral cortex and the frontal lobe. The article states that the cerebral cortex is important because the connecting of neurons starts there around 7 weeks of gestation (Sadedin). This article also says that at about 6-8 months of age the frontal lobe starts to increase glucose consumption (Sadedin). This is because if the cerebral cortex and the frontal lobe do not do what they are suppose to do then someone will be affected both physically and mentally. The article talks all about what the cerebral cortex and frontal lobe do in the early stages of development which are critical. Without understanding these two parts of the brain the public, doctors, and psychologist would never
