When crossing the Arizona California state border, there might be a policeman searching your car for illegal substances. This is illegal, “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”(Bill of Rights). Today our government is helpful to us, right? Without the fourth amendment our government would be scary just to think of. They would be like a dictatorship, practically knowing everything, and owning everything. The reason this amendment was created was because it was a response to king george's unreasonable terms on how he and his soldiers knew everything. In The Fourth Amendment: Overview it states “A seizure of property, within the meaning of the Fourth Amendment, occurs when there is some meaningful interference with an individual’s possessory interests in the property.”(Strasser). The government is restricted from any seizing of property due to the fourth amendment. Without this amendment the government could say they want your house, yard, and belongings and nobody would be able to do a thing. The U.S, land of the free, would be a kinda like a communist country with the government left unchecked by the fourth amendment. On the website Ducksters it states, “The Fourth Amendment came about because of the actions of British tax collectors before the Revolutionary War. They would use general warrants to enter and search any house they wanted without needing evidence of wrongdoing. The Founding Fathers wanted to protect people from this sort of invasion of privacy from the government.”(US Government). The founding fathers had this idea because of something the British government was doing. If this Bill of Rights amendment was taken out we would be recreating a problem that caused us to revolt against England and become our own country the US.
