Why Is The Landlady Suspenseful

The “Landlady” was a suspenseful story wrote by Roald Dahl, but how was this story made so suspenseful? Well there are many reasons from the clues he gave out, to the words he used to describe the setting. Still many people wonder how stories get you on the edge of your seat in suspense just waiting to see what is going to happen. The question I’m asking is, how does the author, Roald Dahl make the story “The Landlady” so suspenseful? In the beginning, Billy the main character was put in a predicament of walking down to “The Bell and Dragon” which was a place the character could stay in for his visit. He walked along the path, then came across a bed in breakfast. He then looked through the window to show many things that he saw that made him feel comfortable. Then as the reader you can tell that something is up. The layout of the story, just makes it more suspenseful. The author chose to write this story in 3rd person which made the reader see what was going on around the main character, that the
By the way the landlady kept going over her own words, like how she said the other people that stayed there were still here, then saying they weren’t. The dialogue really made you feel like you were in the story yourself. The words the lady kept saying were quick and unorganized to the reader, but Billy thought it was just because she had lost someone in her life before and was lonely all the time. There are many other times like this in the story that make you shake also. All in all, this story really could make the reader jump a little when ever something spooky happened. The word play in this story really helped the story move along at a quick pase. Roald Dahl the author of “The Landlady” had all of these things in his writing making the reader captured in the story wanting to read on and on. That is why I believe Roald Dahl made the story is so
