In the early renaissance Venice was a major European country, it was founded in the fifth century. The main role of the renaissance was trading to foreign countries. During the Renaissance the population was 150,000. There were four social classes. The highest class the nobles, who lived on large estates outside city walls. (Classes during the Renaissance) Owned most of the cities land, common jobs were Military Officers, Royal Advisers and Politicians. Baldassare Castiglione wrote the book The Book of the Courtier. (Castiglione's Book) This book described the classic noble life and what training and social talents are required. Many nobles gained wealth in Wool Processing, Shipbuilding, Banking, and Merchants. They also became artists so they could gain public favor. Tradesman the third highest class. Who gained wealth in industries by being craft workers and shopkeepers. A common job for unskilled workers were laborers which did not have job protection and were dependent on employers. If they violated rules wages could be withheld or fired from a job.
