In all reality, it is an instrumental norm for me in my classes. Everyday I take handwritten notes in class, knowing that I will be looking back at them later to make sure that I am remembering a subject properly. Taking notes, specifically writing them out, has been proven to increase academic performance. I have also noticed in myself that I tend to remember content better when I take handwritten notes rather than mindless notes on a computer or no notes at all. I believe that while writing during lectures, your brain is forced to pick out the key information while your hands are working at a slower pace, adding support to your long-term knowledge. Every so often, I also write to explain academic topics. I have always been told that if you can explain or teach a topic correctly, then you know the topic. I usually opt for the explaining option and write my response. This aids in my understanding of the topic and prepares me for a test in case it shows up as an essay
