Why Kids Shouldn T Wear Uniforms

You wake up in the morning, and open your closet. The clothes shock you as you look at the thrilling jeans, and all white T-shirt. You grab them. They feel nice and smooth, with a silky finish to them. You zombie walk to your phone and the dresser, and turn it on. BOOM! The “Wednesday” hits you, and your heart feels as if it drops to your gut in your stomach. This means school. So, you put the jeans and shirt back, only to grab a school, plain, solid color shirt and khaki pants. Around the world, millions upon millions of kids go to school. Some of them have to wear uniform. It’s a must kids don’t want these, and they should have to wear them. What is the point? Schools shouldn’t require uniform because they are a lot of money, don’t let you express yourself, and
It’s not like they are free; they cost money. Lots of money. Depending on how many kids there are, families could end up paying hundreds upon hundreds of dollars each year. According to an Examiner.com article, “Most parents responded that they spent $48 on pants for their children and that $30 was a ‘reasonable’ price for a T-shirt. … average American family… $300 per child for back-to-school clothing” (Buesing). These cost are adding up by the dollar. Struggling parents are having trouble with these. This can be very painful especially at the beginning of the school year in August when you have to go out and buy all of them. These uniforms are a descent size portion of what we pay per year for kids clothes in general. An LA Times article quoted, “Americans spent $1.1 billion on such uniforms last year. School uniforms now represent 5% of the $20.4 billion children’s wear industry” (Matthews). That’s $1.1 billion that we could use on something we actually need, like food or clothes for the homeless and the less fortunate.
