The book 1776 by David McCullough tells the story of the military aspects of the American Revolution. McCullough writes the book from both the British and American point of views, creating a better understanding of what both sides were undergoing during the war.…
I am writing to you because I thought it was important to tell you, I really enjoyed your novel, Jasper Jones, and I fancy your writing style. I am not much of a reader and usually when I have to read a book for school, I dread it, but this time was different. Your book was such an easy read and for the first time, I looked forward to sitting down, getting cozy, and reading. The slang that you used enhanced the book and made the story have a realistic feel. I felt as if some of these events could occur in my life. By the time I reached the end of the book, I was extremely intrigued and couldn’t put Jasper Jones down; I had to know what would happen next.…
There are so many things about you that I wish I could know about before you died in the hospital on that bed. You seemed to be just like Sodapop I loved you very much and I will always treasure the things that you did with me that a specail to me and you even though you are gone. Let the words that you said to me always stay to me and to you and to the Shepard’s Gang and to all the kids that have to go through what you and we had to go through, I hope that they can recover from this and become a special thing and let them have blessing like you johnny. I will always treasure the book that we read in the church and I will never let this book go until I see you again in heaven in the Lord’s arms one more time, we are going to be sad that you are gone and we are going to miss you very much from your great friend who would have never gave up on you, Ponyboy. Rest in Peace johnny. I will stay gold because you will stay with me and I will be a kid and make everyday a new…
Wow I’ve learned so many things in this class. Mr. Huston has taught me many things not just about reading writing and speaking but about life. I love the way he lets us express ourselves in our journals each and everyday. Everyday when I walk into the classroom and get my journal I begin to write the quote of the day down and then to my bellwork. The quote of the day is a Quote that ties into the lesson. Our bellwork is writing about our last 23 hours. So basically you write what you have done since you left Mr. Huston's class the previous day. After bellwork Mr. Huston reads a short story out of the book Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul. Once hes done we write in our journals what we learned about the short story. Then you can share it with the class. Normally you go up to the podium and read it the way you wrote it. Everyday when I look over I see the class motto and it reminds me that if I try my best and give all my effort to stride for perfection then I will grasp excellence in the process. Mr. Huston has made my first quarter…
Odle. I’m not sure when you are going to read this, but I’m gonna go off on a limb and say it's probable that it is after wednesday; I just wanted to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed your class for the semester I have had it, and I have honestly not seen the level of dedication you have to the subject in any other history teacher at McCallie. No, this is not an attempted to salvage a grade or anything of that manner, just my honest, legitimate opinion that I find easier to give in the form of text than through speech. I hope you have a splendid summer, and from the kid that often forgets to remove his hat; take care.…
Dear Clarisse McClellan, life without you has been rough and harder than I expected. You're unlike any person I have interacted with before. You made me question my job and the life I was living in a positive way. I stood up to Captain Beatty and helped make a necessary change in this society, and it was all thanks to you. If it wasn't for you, I would still be doing the wrong thing. My job is to be a ¨firefighter¨ and not a firelighter.¨…
In this essay ill write about slavery times. In the 1800 slave were of all ages. Harriet Jacobs was a young girl and was a slave. I will explain What was life like for Harriet Jacobs as a young slave girl in the south? How did Dr. Flint, his wife, and Harriet's mother influence her life? And last, what did Harriet do, both as a 15 year old girl, and as an author later in life?…
First, Harriet Tubman had escaped from slavery in the southern United States. She then helped lead many other runaway slaves to freedom. Harriet knew she/everyone still had a chance to have a free land.…
It was nice seeing you the other day. I am very happy to tell you that this six week grading period I got a 3.8 unweighted gpa and a 4.0 weighted. This year I am doing a lot better in math I currently have a A in math. I think the main reason is because of you, you taught me to avocate for myself which is what I am currently doing when I need something in math or Spanish.…
It has gone so incredibly fast. I can honestly say that I am going to miss this class. I am not going to miss the drive to Collinsville, though. I feel that I have grown a great bit while making my way through this Cross Cultural cluster. I never once dreaded having to work all day and then having to go to class and sit for four hours. My classmates are great. As a class, we always made it fun and entertaining. I do hope that I am blessed with having them in class with the rest of my journey seeking my bachelor’s degree. I have plenty of class left to conquer. Lastly, thank you, Professor Anderson! You made this cluster to be unlike any that I have experienced thus far. You made me feel comfortable from day one. I am a real big fan of your spontaneousness and flexibility. You could really feel your passion each night we met. You could tell you wanted to be there teaching us. Again, thank you. And, it would bring me great joy to have you again as my…
I was a bit inspired by Shafto (2011) and actually wanted to respond to her. She had a unique perspective, looking back on how far she had come from her own second grade class, and the train of thought that brought her to write letters to her younger self is a creative one. Perhaps she has learned even more life lessons that serve to form a sort of crystallized intelligence she can help use to shape young minds in the future. Things that won’t necessarily be found in a textbook, but are the kinds of things that time and maturity and perspective can provide. If I could write…
I have thought a lot about my language arts teacher today and how I do not want to lose her. My mom has a teacher she used to have that has a modeo that says once a student always a student and that is true for the two of us because we are friends!!!! I will still be reading a lot next year because she encouraged me to and because I learned a life lesson that is what reading can do for your life and I hope I can teach my friend Jenna that lesson!! I will remember my teacher forever and I hope she knows that I will miss her very much!!!!!!! She has changed my life because I have my love for reading back and I have realized that it would be stupid of me to feel like I am not a good reader or writer ever again. I have a special place in my heart for her and even though I may not be living In Kentucky when I grow up I will still remember her! I will remember her until I die and when I come home to see my parents I may be able to see her!!!!!! I love her so much and she loves me to. We are so close that I am praying to see what the best thing is for me to do for my career and where he wants me to live. I have a feeling that he is telling me to live in Kentucky near my parents and to work at the middle school and live in New York in the summer times to work with Jenna!!!!! I may go live in New York while I’m getting my teacher degree so that I can help Jenna get the Bakery Shop started. That’s just in case Mrs. Mattingly is still working at the middle school when I get out of college. I am going to college for a total of 8 years, but I am getting my teacher degree first and then I am getting a music degree online instead with my cousin. So that means that in eleven years which that is including 8th grade I would be trying to get a job at the middle school. I will see what the lord wants me to do, but I do feel that he is telling me to do that. I hope I can do that without my friend Jenna getting mad. I want to teach Language arts because Mrs. Mattingly has taught me a…
I know that I may not be the greatest writer nor will I ever be; with a great life lesson, my grandpa taught me to to always do my best and work harder than anyone. With the expertise of Mrs. Gilly and my work I ethic, my writing abilities have greatly improved over the course of a few years. This work ethic that I have achieved over many years of practice, applied greatly for my American Studies class this past year; I would not of been able to evolve into a more profound writer that will continue to help me excel in the writing works that I will continue to do the rest of my life. Me, myself has been the one working to get where I am today, but Mrs. Gilly is the brain of the operation who has helped me learn new ways of writing. I am…
I admire you as a student, fellow musician and as a friend. You have always accelerated in whatever you have tried. I know that you’ll have a great musical career whether it be teaching or playing (or some of both). You are so smart and funny. It is hard to believe that before Marching Band, I didn’t know you at all and know I feel like I know too much of you. You are are very, very, very talented Clarinet player and I admire you in every single way. You have changed me, you make me want to be a better clarinet player every single day. Whether it be acing warm-ups or playing the show with full dynamics. Though after next year I probably won’t use it, it still never hurts of being semi-good. :) I loved walking through the band journey with you…
Last summer I stayed with my aunt Susie for the first time. I had never met her a day in my life. My parents sent me to her house for the summer vacation. I was spending my whole summer with her and her family. I had never that was the first time we introduced. At first, I thought that it was going to be my worst vacation ever. I felt embarrassed of living with people I hardly knew and wanted to return home. Days passed and I got to know my aunt better.…
