Knowing how the men died is not the same as knowing why they died. First knowing how they died is easy to see.Like how if the ship had better ventilation, it wouldn’t have sunk so fast. It would have given them a little more time to see what they needed to do to get help. When the ship went under they were in shark infested water and some men died from getting eaten by the sharks. Most of the men got thirsty after the first few hours so they decided to drink the salty water which made them dehydrated and made them throw up and some men died from dehydration. Then some men died because they decided to go swim to help and got tired and drowned. Then some men …show more content…
gave up hope and just drowned. And most men died while they were on the ship from either the explosion or had no way of escaping the sinking ship. However knowing why they died is a mystery ,but there are some reasons why they died.
Most men died because the captain was not doing a zig zag but instead was going straight. If the captain was to have kept doing the zig zag maneuver the ship probably would have not gotten hit by the torpedo and Mochitsura Hashimoto wouldn’t have seen the ship when he looked at the moon. And if they would not have rushed to deliver the atomic bomb they wouldn't have been hit by the torpedo and Mochitsura Hashimoto would've given up and left.
Then the ship would have been repaired and maybe would have survived the blasts from the torpedos. If Commodore would have not been playing cards ,maybe he would've sent the vessels out himself. If the other captain wouldn't have been drunk he could have tried to see what was going on. In all ,if all the captains of those ships would have taken their job seriously, the men aboard the Indianapolis would have survived because they would've tried to get there as fast as they can. Above all there are many ways how they died, but there are way more reasons why they died. The captains didn't want to take their job seriously, the captain of the Indianapolis didn't keep doing their zig zag maneuver, and they rushed without doing any repairs to their ship or any training on what to do when the ship is sinking. They were unprepared mentally and didn't know what do. Knowing how the men died is not the same as why they
died.
