Expository Essay: Russell “Why Not” Westbrook
Russell Westbrook is a reigning MVP and considered one of the most furious finishers who dunks over 7 footers and over 6 footers. He looks very mad on the court as if he has been holding a grudge against his opponents. But off the court he is a very generous having his own foundation “Why Not,” which is an outreach organization to help provide provisions for unfortunate kids. He represents three very good traits/attributes that make him a great role model: Loyalty, moral codes, and overcoming adversity. From my prospective these are traits that form a great role model. I will discuss the physiological effects of these through the essay.

(Respect) All right next season rolls around and the Thunder are faced with a daunting problem of overcoming such loss. Russell Westbrook completes the season with a new triple double (double digit statistics in 3 categories [rebounds, points, assists, steals, blocks]) passing Oscar Robertson. And the icing on top was winning an MVP over his former teammate which left him 3 years ago. He showed that he overcame adversity.
(Role Model) With all of this under his belt he is a considered a ‘Role Model’ or ‘Someone to Look Up Too’. He has earned the right to have the spotlight on him because he not only uses in a positive way but he gives back to his supporters and most importantly his haters and doubters.
This is what I believe makes him a role model with good ethics. If it doesn't sound like he has overcome adversity yet I don't know what adversity is. Overcoming adversity is a synonym for perseverance and I believe without perseverance in life you will not succeed. Russell Westbrook overcame adversity after a gruesome injury but as come back with a MVP season it is great to watch him

Following Michael Jordans footsteps again, Rose became the first NBA all-star on the Bulls since Jordan was named an all-star in 1998. Rose’s third season could be considered his most successful, one of his best games was on January 17 2011. I remember sitting upstairs at my house, wearing my cobalt blue Adidas DRose 2.5s, watching the Bulls play the Grizzlies. The whole game Derrick seemed to be controlling the court, he flew up and down the light colored hardwood finding many creative ways to put the little orange ball in the little orange hoop. Derrick finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists, recording his first triple double. I was amazed by his performance and began to watch as many Bull’s games as I could, just to see him play. After more great performances Rose lead his Bulls team to a 62-20 record and Derrick won the NBA’s most valuable player award. At age 22 Derrick Rose was the youngest person to ever be named the MVP of the league, breaking a 47 year old record. When he won the MVP he inspired me by the way he overcame a hard situation to become one of the greatest athletes in the NBA and he also made me believe that if I worked hard like he did I could accomplish my…

People recognise Lebron James as not only a legendary basketball player, but also an expert wordsmith. As Lebron left his home of Cleveland with the promise of fame and fortune in the land of the Miami Heat, he betrayed his hometown. Many expressed outrage about his betrayal and found themselves offended by his very name. People met the sudden switch from Miami and back to Cleveland with much anger and controversy from both cities. People threw rumors and hateful words his way. Surrounded by all of the anger, Lebron released a beautifully crafted essay using strong rhetoric to shield himself from the blows. After this essay was released, those who had assaulted him began to follow and to support his decision. Many find it difficult to win the hearts of those who feel wronged. Yet with careful diction and presumably honest emotions and truths, it can be done. Lebron did just that.…

“The Book of Basketball: The NBA According to the Sports Guy” by Bill Simmons, was a book only the Sports Guy could write. Save a few hundred pages for Simmons to inform the readers on how he became the basketball and Celtics fan he is today (hint: it was his dad choosing between a motorcycle and season tickets to the Celtics), why as a child he called himself Jabaal Abdul-Simmons, footnotes galore, his hatred for Isiah Thomas and Wilt Chamberlain, and many of the greatest “What-if’s” in basketball history. Other than that, Bill Simmons uses this behemoth of a book to indulge on his version of “The Secret” of basketball, winning championships, and gives his take on how the NBA Hall of Fame should be constructed. In a pyramid style ranking with five levels Bill Simmons has who he thinks should be where, as of 2009, and each level getting smaller and smaller due to the higher standard. It all ends with the 12 best of all time, sitting atop the pyramid like kings with Michael Jordan number one. Again there was no one other than Simmons to write this book. “You could dress me red, drop in into a Crips neighborhood, tell me that I have 12 minutes to start a high-caliber NBA conversation before somebody puts a cap in my ass...and I would…
