Why Online Books?
WHY ONLINE?
For MPH Bookstores Malaysia, the e-commerce unit has been in operation since year 2000. With an extensive collection of book titles across various topics and categories supported with easy-to-search function for online browsing, and bundled with next business day arrival for local delivery as well as international address doorstep delivery service, it has served customers from different parts of the world since then.
The emerging trend of online shopping has encouraged many organizations to assess various new opportunities to promote their products and services through the virtual space. To many – it is more than just an online marketplace – it is becoming another essential channel to maintain brand awareness and loyalty, as well as an intuitive platform for customer retention and relationship building.
In late 2006, with new talents and resources, its operation team was re-organized as an independent business unit and the web store is re-branded with a new identity as MPH Online.com. It is part of MPH Bookstores’ commitment to embark on greater challenges by offering wider selection of titles in order to meet the growing demand and expectations from the market and particularly the Internet community.
Store space and stock
A physical brick-and-mortar bookstore is limited by space and budget in the books it offers, but online bookstores face none of these constraints. An online bookstore not only offers the most popular authors and titles, it sells esoteric titles in every possible variety. Unusual hobbies, foreign-language titles and small-run fiction receive the same space as the latest bestseller on a bookstore's website. While a customer may be able to order a seldom-requested, out-of-stock title at the local bookstore, it could take days or weeks for it to arrive, plus additional time for customer notification and travel to the store for pickup. Order the same book online and it is delivered to the customer's door in the same amount of time
