Introduction The leadership styles of the Follett Corporation are outstanding and will bring about company growth. This paper aims at revealing through analysis and research the leadership styles found within a Follett bookstore. This bookstore is well known by the writer and was chosen because of this intimate knowledge. This research focuses on four leadership styles that have been used within the organization. These styles play apart in the success of objectives and tasks being accomplished. Leaders need to acquire skills that will keep them one step ahead of the competition. These leaders must be successful at taking on the rapidly changing climate of business and navigate an organization through the upcoming change ( Gregory, 2011).
Background The Follett Higher Education Group is a family-owned bookstore now turned corporation that has functioned with reliability and admiration for approximately one hundred and thirty seven years (137). They have managed more than eight hundred and fifty (850) bookstores nationwide. The Follett Higher Education Group has also provided administration systems, assistance services, and pre-owned or used textbooks to more than one thousand and eight hundred (1,800) autonomously managed bookstores (Follett Values, 2011). The company’s vision is to help various bookstores succeed by sharing the knowledge that helped them succeed. The company is a River Grove, Illinois based company which was started as a mail-order book company in Chicago called C.M. Barnes & Company. In 1873 it was founded by Charles M. Barnes. Barnes soon retired around 1902 while relinquishing control of the company to his son William. The company at this time had developed into a wholesale company and began selling secondhand books all over the Midwest. Before
