Why Should Anyone Be Led By You?
Why Should Anyone Be Led by You?

In army, commanders have always been as units` flags who have indicated the direction for their units and to whom the units have aligned with. History has shown that success or failure of military operations depends largely on commander’s ability to unite and lead his subordinates. Therefore, an officer as the military leader should ask from himself “Why should anyone be led by me?”, and I am not exception. So, why should anybody follow me as a military leader?
Firstly, I like my job and I do it with great pleasure. I have always known that nobody wants follow you If you do your job without motivation. My principle of service as a chief of staff is manner of thought – warfighting is teamwork, without subordinates, a commander can do nothing on a battlefield. Therefore, I have been trying to be as the example to my subordinates. My subordinates push themselves much more if they see that, I do the same.
Secondly, I have been trying to be inspirational leader for my subordinates. I know that to achieve the set goal commanders need inspired and motivated subordinates. To inspire and motivate the subordinates I have used mission command principles to achieve set goals. I have noticed during my service that my subordinates do their job with bigger pleasure if I give them more freedom to act. In addition, the end state of

I agree that subordinates have to see that I am just a human and I cannot do everything by myself, I need definitely their help to achieve set

Like all military officers, I was trained and groomed to be a leader from the time I raised my right hand and took the oath of office. The most important contribution to my success was the emphasis I placed on putting junior member’s needs before mine. I have a code that I live by and it has been very effective as a leader, “Take care of your people, and they will take care of…

First, I must choose the harder right. I strongly believe that a good officer is one that is not afraid to go that extra mile to ensure the safety and welfare of the soldiers under his command, this is very rarely easier than just doing the minimum. Secondly, a leader must remain calm in all situations. The soldiers under the command of a nervous and indecisive leader will tend to act in the same way, they actually "inherit" some of the traits that their commanding officer portrays, both on the battlefield and in garrison. If a leader even seems indecisive and unsure of him/her self then the soldiers he/she commands will be hesitant about following the orders they are issued, and hesitation on the battlefield does nothing more than cost lives. Next, I'd like to touch on the fact that in the army talent must be promoted. One should not be afraid to promote officers that have greater aptitude than that they possess. If talent had not been promoted, then Sam Damon would not have been able to create such a positive impact on the Army, and a few more soldiers could have lost their lives in combat.…

It’s not about you, it’s about your followers and putting them ahead of you. Being a leader can also involve risks and you may also have to do things that are out of your character. In Glory, Private Thomas Searles and Private Silas Trip had to fight to take care of their regiment. No matter what the situation was they stood strong and did not give up. They were willing to go to battle for their regiment. Private Trip and Thomas Searles were great examples of true leaders. According to Army Doctrine Reference Manual (ADRP) 6-0, (2012) one of the three primary tasks for a commander is to inform and influence both internal and external audiences. Leadership is defined as the process in which an individual influences the group of individuals to attain a common goal. The goal is attained by mutual cooperation and behavior. A leader has a sense of positivity and directs others to reach the specified goal. In The Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps, (JROTC) the leaders teach us how to become better leaders. They also teach us to build character and leadership by providing guidance and putting us cadets in a position that we are not accustomed to. This helps us adapt to new types of things. We also have to set the example for the school, especially when we wear our uniforms. When we put on that uniform it means we are to be a leader. People watch us because we have the uniform on and they know we are a part of JROTC therefore they expect more out of us. A leader is someone who stands not only for their cause but takes responsibility and motivates other individuals also. There is a difference between being a boss and a leader. A leader is a motivation for others and inspires individuals to aim higher and attain that aim. However, a boss only supervises over his inferiors. Power naturally comes to a leader but power has to be earned by a boss. The best leaders are those who can lead and direct without misuse of their power. They must be able to inspire others in a direction or greater good. They must be strong enough to stand firm in decision making and leading others without a selfish attitude. In order to be a successful leader it is essential to have good character. You must have honesty, confidence, communication, and commitment. You have to have honesty because if someone is doing something wrong you need to be able to have honest feedback. You need communication because you need to be able to command your platoon. You need to have commitment because you need to stick with it and create a relationship with your platoon so you, and they, will feel more…

Victor Rios, the author of the book Punished focused on the struggles that Latino and African American young men ages 14-18 face when it comes to coping when all odds are against them. Rios (2011) establishes the phrase “Youth Control Complex” which he defines as “ a system in which schools, police, probation officers, families, community centers, the media, and other systems treat young people’s everyday behaviors as criminal activity” (XIV). The reality of these young men is that, all their societal systems are failing them. Teachers don’t care about teaching students, the criminal justice system is only waiting on them to walk the streets or seem “suspicious” for them to get arrested, friends “act bad” to gain respect amongst each other…

Military leadership isn’t simply about leading a group of individuals to accomplish the mission. On the surface it may seem this way; a barrage of loud, authoritative orders being barked out to brainwashed enlistees. This is how the preponderance of the masses that aren’t associated with the military may see us. However, it’s much, much more than that. Military leadership is about leading individuals to become something more than they ever thought they could be. To develop an individual into one of integrity and excellence. To help them reach goals they never thought possible and to consider a world beyond their own. Truly, there is no other form of leadership quite like it.…

When I was just a Cadet Basic I wanted to be a leader right then! I came to realize with the help of my commonsense and my leaders that I had to become a follower before I was ready to lead. I learned that “followership” was defined as reaching a specific goal while exercising respect for authority, a positive attitude, integrity, and self discipline. With that I understood that all leaders are followers. As I progressed up through the program and its echelons, I took my innate leadership abilities and the skills I learned to become a successful leader and shaped myself into a respected leader. To this day I am a Cadet Chief Master Sergeant/1st Sergeant, about to become a Lieutenant.…

Most people think that when the air from a helium balloon changes your voice it is hilarious because you may sound like Donald Duck. He is a funny character and his voice is different than what we hear every day. When you take helium into your mouth and begin to talk, it makes you sound like Donald Duck with his high-pitched voice. You generate sound by vibrating two small flaps of mucous membrane, called vocal folds. Donald Duck’s vocal cords are vibrating faster than normal people’s which makes his voice sound higher pitched.…
