Why Should Drunk Drivers Be Put In Jail

Why drunk drivers should be put in jail on the first time they get caught drinking and driving. I will be looking at both sides of this topic. First let’s look at how it could affect the city and its people. If there is someone out driving around drunk all the people on the streets are in danger. Families and children are put in the most danger because they are the people who are out on the streets the most. The driver also puts himself in danger. There could also be property damage to the city which could cost the city plenty of money. That might limit the spending of the city for the month. When there are high traffic areas of drunk drivers, the city may have to put more police in that area. Which will limit the police resources which could be used to protect the people from other offenders. It also makes taxes go up around the area because it costs more to pay the officers to patrol the area. Then the citizens are effected either way by the drunk drivers or the more money spent to catch them.
First off when your drunk you don’t think right you don’t have much control of what you do. If you were drunk and got into your car you might not even know it’s happening. How can you prosecute someone who has no clue what happened and just woke up in the hospital? It’s hard to do but the way the system is today it doesn’t matter. If you got drunk and drove your car and someone got killed you are done no doubt about it. When you drink I think you should make plans before you even start so you know how to get home safely without being illegal.
