Some children may not have time to revise at home if they have to help their parents with chores and childcare while they’re at work- many parents can’t afford to give up work or cut down their hours if their income is low, so tasks often fall on the older children. Their revision and homework completion can also be affected by overcrowding in the household, as a study space is needed for each child in order to achieve academic success. Overcrowding can lead to illnesses spreading around the household easier as well, which again affects attendance.…

Since Roberto Nevilis introduced it to the world as a punishment in 1905, there have been many arguments to whether or not homework should be required. What initially started as punishment for kids who messed around in class has become a mandatory task that all students are required to do daily. I’m here to end that, I intend to show you that students should not be required to complete homework for a grade. Homework consumes too much time and leaves no space for extracurricular activities and causes health problems. On top of that, many students don’t even have the resources required to complete the homework. Despite these things, homework is still a graded assignment that if failed to complete, can drastically bring down a student's grade.…

The clock hits 7:30 and I just get home and haven’t been home all day. Then I realize that I have to do English homework, social studies, science and math. This has happened to me many times. The second reason we shouldn’t have homework is it is a major health issue for most kids. First off, you get less sleep because some teens have to stay up all night because they get home late and still have to do a lot of homework. Students in middle school need a lot of sleep because they have to wake up at 6:00. People say that kids from ages 10-18 need at least 8-9 hours of sleep and some teens only get 6-7 because there up so late doing homework. The second reason homework is a health issue is it gives kids a lot of stress because they have to do homework and don’t want to forget anything. This gives students more stress because they already have stress from tests, lessons and exams. The last reason why homework is a health issue is kids…

Homework has been around for as long as there have been tax paying schools. The first person to create homework was Robert Nevilis from Italy in 1905 (Roberto). Over the years that homework has been around, people have gotten different impressions and opinions on the topic. Most students believe it is way too much and unnecessary. Teachers believe that homework is very useful and beneficial for the students. While other faculty members believe it is a waste of time. Teachers and students are not the only ones with mixed emotions on this topic (NEA). Parents can also relate. It has come to the attention of many that the debate over home schooling has been getting more brutal each and every day. Below is reassurance on why the board should offer this marvelous opportunity to these students. Every student is different, each has its own learning curves; some more then others. I am for home school because students can be overwhelmed by the large amount of work, students can get off task easily in traditional school, and if a student is home schooled, the student is the center of attention.…

We all enjoy going home after school and clubs and sports so we can buckle down and fill out meaningless worksheets and packets until we crash? No. That work is not essential, it is the opposite. Busywork is destructive to the mind of a young and maturing learner. Developmental work involves application of learning through real life contexts, readying students for adulthood. Busywork involves meaningless copying of information or repetition of already learned knowledge instead of instilling new ideas into a student’s mind to broaden their horizons and to nurture their love for knowledge.…

How are they supposed to complete hours worth of homework, as well as complete other activities that they are committed to? And on top of that, the student is expected to have at least 8 hours of sleep per day. Homework is preventing students from leading an active lifestyle, which therefore is harmful to their bodies. According to Stats Canada, about 72% of parents found that homework was often a source of household stress (Survey of Canadian Attitudes toward Learning). That is due to the fact that students are put under great pressure from teachers and parents. Unnecessary assignments could raise the stress level of the student, which can potentially lower productivity and performance, rather than raise it. Distress, which is stress that continues without relief, can lead to symptoms such as headaches, migraines, and high blood…

Flexibility is one key element in the growing popularity of homeschooling. The adult as well as the child’s schedule becomes flexible with the use of this form of school. The child is not limited to the routine of sitting in a particular class for a specified amount of time and continuously switching classes throughout the day. Also, since the child isn’t reliant on the school calendar it allows their family to travel whenever they want. Not being bound by the school calendar also has another advantage such as not worrying about missing days of school. If the child is sick, making work up would be relatively simple and they would not have to struggle in the process. Also, children won’t be spending unnecessary time on homework because they will complete their overall work faster with the help of one-on-one instructional time. The completion of homework would happen during the child’s class time with little distraction. The parents could teach their children at their own pace which is usually faster than that of other institutions. (Moffat) “Public schools squander the best time in a family’s life. They rob the family of the time that could be spent together, learning, playing, and creating.” (Vital Speeches of the Day 1)…
