Why Should People's Right To Own A Gun Change Now?
Americans legally had access to firearms since 1791. Why should peoples’ right to own a gun change now? The Second Amendment allows United States citizens to access and use firearms. Arguably the Second Amendment is not for today’s society and people desire the creation of restricting gun laws. Currently, the government entrusts the creation of gun laws up to the state, which is problematic when law-abiding citizens travel from state to state with a firearm. All people in the right state of mind and have proper training should have access to firearms for self-defense, hobby, and as United States citizens. Since the United States of America gained their independence they have not run into too many corrupt government situations that were not easily fixed with a lovely system known as checks and balances. Checks and balances were put in place to ensure that no one body of the government would have too much power. But what happens if the checks and balances fail? What happens if another country invades the US? Will the military be there for their citizens? The truth is people enjoy having control over everything and once the control is lost, so is the order. Without a government system, the US would not be considered a developed country because there would not be any set laws. In 1791 people decided, “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (Patriotic American Eagle the 2nd Amendment). Normally when people go on a vacation they are ever prepared to ensure they will not forget anything that is needed for their vacation. That is how people should look at guns, being prepared for something that may or may not happen.
