“For many, the American dream has become a nightmare” (Bernie Sanders). Many people dream of the most perfect things in life. They want the American Dream to be having a big fancy house, having a fancy car, and having a lot of money. That is not all that matters in life, there are many other things that matter in life that are not a big fancy house, a fancy car, and a lot of money. The definition of “American Dream” is that every US citizen should have equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity from hard work, determination, and resourcefulness. Stress from bills, work, and maybe even your kids can really put a toll on you and stress you out. The stress can wear you down, and that may make you not want to see through and follow up to your American Dream. Stress may or may not make you miserable. When you are miserable you do not want to do anything that you may of wanted to do before. An example of that would be your American Dream. The American Dream can bring you into a large-scale of stress. Say your dream was to have a big family, gaining family members can put at least 39 percent more stress on you, is what Holmes-Rahe Stress Inventory states. Or if your parents moved in with you, that can also add the same amount of stress on to you. Having all that stress can really kill your American Dream. “You stuff somebody into the American dream, and it becomes a prison” (Craig L. Thomas). Could it be a prison of your stress? It could be. Being in a state of stress all the time is not good for you nor is it healthy. The American Dream is slowly, mentally shutting us down, which is not good for you. Stress can lead to or give risks to health problems such as depression, heart disease, diabetes, etc. Is the American Dream really that important if it could by any chance lead to these types of health problems? If you do not have the motivation to achieve your American dream you won’t. When you are sick you have absolutely no motivation to do anything. If you take a New Year’s Resolution for example, many people do not achieve it because lack of motivation. That is just like the American Dream, many people will not carry through with it because of their lack of motivation, which is quite sad. Motivation is hard for people to have in their lives. Motivation can be killed because of your family, pets, and work. Family can kill your American dream because you will always be cleaning the house for or because of them and that can wear you out. Pets can also kill your motivation because you always have to clean up after them too, like sweeping their fur up. In addition to that you also have to take them out to use the bathroom all the time. Work can kill your dream because you have to always be doing stuff that your boss wants you to live up to. Where ever you work students, customers, and other staff members can get on your nerves and tire you out. They may make you want to just go home to take a breather and do nothing. You need motivation in life to do anything, like you need motivation to follow through with your American
