Why Should Whales Be In Captivity?
I do not think whales should be in captivity because whales are way too big to be in takes at seaworld the whales can’t even move around in the tank, imagine you are living in the entire ocean and then you just get pulled out and get put in a tank where you can’t even move. I think that they just want a bigger crowd because it means they would get more money. Whales should not be in captivity because the tanks are way to small, Trainers don't not feed the whale enough, and people don’t have the best interest in the whales. Are we saving or taking the whales from their home. I think the people are taking the whales because you are not saving an animal when you are just taking them out of the ocean, it is the whales home. Orca whales are very …show more content…
When the people who took the whales give the whales food they do not give them a lot. Whales are big animals and they are only serving small portions to them. I think whales liked it better in the ocean because they could just have as much food as they want but now that they are in tanks and used as money making tools they don't really care about the animals they just want money off of them, just like the small servings if they cared they would give the whales more food. According to Ingrid Betancourt, “In captivity one loses every way of acting over a small detail.”
I don't even think that the people care about the whales I mean you pull the animals right out of the ocean which is their home and rip them apart from their own family if that happened to me I would be pretty made. Whales in captivity have killed many people so I don’t even think it is safe to put them in captivity, they did not kill anyone in the ocean but now they are because they are in captivity. Whales are so friendly to us they have never done anything to hurt us but, we are hurting them, just

By observing the dilemma of captivity amongst orca whales, it produces emotions that range from empathy to resentment. On Friday, The California State Legislature approved a historic bill that banned the breeding of captive killer whales and orca performances in the state, the only exception would be for educational purposes and not entertainment, display, or performance purposes. The bill also prohibits the export or collect captive orcas coming from any place in California to another state or country, unless approved by federal law, and importing their semen or embryos of any orcas held in captivity for artificial insemination. The legislation passed 26-13 with Democrats in favor and Republicans opposing. The bill required that the killer whales be sent to sea sanctuaries for retirement in the United States or Canada. Sea World are actively lobbying against the bill, calling it unnecessary since they had already planned to do this and had announced…

Imagine being taken from your family at a very young age and held captive for the rest of your life. You are confined in a space about as big as your average bedroom and forced to eat, sleep, and play in there. Everyday you have to put on shows to entertain others with little to no rewards. You have no friends and family to relax with and no spouse to mate with. Who are you? You’re an average Killer Whale taken into captivity and forced to perform for others at Amusement Parks. Killer whales that are held in captivity have many negative impacts on their lives. When they are not in the wild their majestic dorsal fins can collapse, their death rate increases, and the chances of a trainer being hurt is escalated.…

This documentary is mostly filmed with the participation of the people that have had more experience with killer whales. One of the first interviewees/speakers of this documentary was John Crowe, one of the many men hired to capture these killer whales. He tells the story of what he had to do to take the whales. During the interview, he claimed that he had seen many things that were difficult to believe, however he truly believed that stealing the young orcas away from their mothers was the worst thing he has ever done. While Mr. Crowe was telling his story, his eyes began to water and there was a change in his voice, as if he wanted to break down in tears. Witnessing a big, breaded, intimidating man crying on camera over the guilt he has for capturing these baby orcas sanctions you to feel the same hurt and guilt. The producers made the right choice by choosing to interview John Crowe to grab the attention of the audience by making us feel sorry for the whales. Sadly, the tears that Mr. Crowe shed was not the only thing that appealed to my emotions. This documentary showed, in many scenes, the process of the orca captures and in the videos, you could hear the baby orca and its mother crying back and forth to each other. These crucial actions even caused me to feel angry with the men that were capturing the…

Using killer whales as entertainment is unfair/inhumane, and not appropriate for others enjoyment because in the film, “Blackfish,” dates back to 1983, where a man is interviewed on capturing Tilikum, who showed emotion while telling his story. Tilikum was taken away from the wild, his mother, and family as a baby whale. As the men were trying to capture Tilikum, the mother and rest of the family were around the boat, calling for each other, and trying to help Tilikum to get away. It is such a sad thing to see or even think about, imagine someone just taking what doesn’t belong to them. The men showed no feelings or emotion on just taking the baby whale away and not even caring. “…killer whales that live in captivity more likely to suffer…

Imagine you are in a boat right off the shores of Greece. You happen to look up and out of the corner of your eye you see something. As your gaze adjusts, you notice it's a killer whale, being torn away from his home. A large net encloses in in, attached to a large ship. Now, imagine you are sitting in the stands at SeaWorld, surrounded by hundreds of people, people waiting so eagerly to lay eyes on this year’s rendition of “Shamu”. When you look into the cement “pool”, you see him. You see the majestic, beautiful, free, wild animal now in captivity. Only, this time, he looks tired, old, neglected, abused, and lifeless. This is exactly what SeaWorld is doing to killer whales. They take these wild animals out of their natural habitat and force them into captivity.…

    After Seaworld Analysis

I believe that no matter how trained you are, animals can be unpredictable especially ones with history of violence. Even the workers at SeaWorld didn't know the history of Tilikum and possibly why he acted out with Dawn. Though I think these enormous whales should not be captured for entertainment purposes, not all of these public places are for profit. Seaworld is a profit organization, as stated “ A corporation like SeaWorld only changes because it's financially prudent to do so” (Wallace) In a way I don’t support seaworld. I support zoos, aquariums and circuses if they are not harming animals for entertainment of money. SeaWorld has had many incidents with animals and I think that the places like aquariums and zoos, that are not for profit organizations try their best to create a habitat safe for the animals living there. “They feel that zoos and aquariums, for the most part, try to recreate a natural environment for the animals and, more importantly, don't disrespect them by having them perform all day long and do things that are completely unnatural for them.” (Wallace) They try to remake their habitats, so that the rescued…

When saying that the animals shouldn’t be released because they will die is in my opinion an assumption or even an excuse, because they are not giving statistics, which really proofs that statement. In the article they also give an example that “Keiko – the free Willy whale” was a failure to release him, but as far as I know this whale did not die because he was released – he died because of illness. The author also gives supported arguments by naming different organizations, which gives evidence to believe him. I would wish that the author had more proof about what SeaWorld is doing in the future, or more evidence what makes it believable. The author is not using big words but he uses his language appropriate for the subject and also explains clearly what he is talking about. The author himself is not taking a point of view but he is pointing out, that SeaWorld should stop breeding whales and maybe not keeping them in captivity anymore; but he also give credit to SeaWorld because they are doing rescues for certain animals too. He wants his audience to think about the problems which already exists for example there are already more than 3000 species endangered and the world is threaten by “the sixth extinction” so the real problems are not zoos or aquariums. In conclusion, the article is well written, the author is using appropriate language and gives his audience a reason to think about the main problems in his last sentence. All in all, his article is informative and he gives both sides of the issue, but I personally miss more evidence that proofs the statement that SeaWorld stops breeding whales and take out the show from the…

Some people believe that Sea World is a greedy, profit-seeking organization that couldn’t care less about the treatment and well-being of their animals, but the truth is, the animals are in the best possible care. If the orcas or any other animal at Sea World were anywhere else, they would not get the attention and care they need to survive. Sea World’s reputation was tarnished severely by the documentary, Blackfish, in 2013. “This documentary claims that life at Sea World is cruel and harsh for both the trainers and the whales and that they have attempted to cover up the truth about many incidents involving their whales; both are false (Truth About Blackfish, Sea World Cares.com). Kyle Kittleson, a former marine mammal trainer for Sea World, states, “the documentary, Blackfish, is about 15% correct; one of those facts being in Sea Worlds earlier times, like the 60’s and 70’s, people had a different…

Whale hunting, or whaling, has been a famed Japanese tradition for numerous years. The industrial whaling the country is known for nowadays was set up just after the Second World War. Who does not love to see dolphins and whales flipping and doing tricks? Although the animals look happy and unharmed, there is a dark truth behind the captive marine life in amusement parks and zoos. Yes, attending zoos and marine life amusement parks are a part of childhood; but recently researchers have discovered just how cruel the environment is for the marine life in captivity. After studies of comparing the quality of life of marine animals in the wild and in captivity, there are multiple examples shown in Blackfish, PETA, and the Animal Welfare Institute that show that animals prosper and live longer in their natural habitats. Due to the cruelty endured by the captivated Orcas, all the SeaWorld parks should be shut down and the Orca whales should be set free to prevent further demise to their species.…

If someone wanted to talk about animal abuse that person would talk about is SeaWorld. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, more commonly known as PETA, has for years tried to close SeaWorld’s doors because of their treatment of the killer whales. One reason why People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is mad, SeaWorld’s parking lot is bigger than the killer whale habitat. On television People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has been airing commercials trying to convince people not to go to SeaWorld. SeaWorld responded with their own commercials saying that the whales are being taken care of and if they were not I would not be working here.…

When animals such as the killer whale are forced to do tricks for human entertainment it can be damaging for them. They are large creatures who live in tanks most not in suitable size for the animal and many die a premature death. Zoos all the while try to make the animals as comfortable as possible and help save animals left for dead. In the recent years the Columbus Zoo rescued a polar bear cub since the mother abandoned it and the cub has been doing great ever since. Zoos try to make the animals live longer, feel safe and live a normal life, but not all zoos try to make this possible. Some zoos only do things to earn money and sell these poor animals to other places like the circus. Zoos, circuses and aquariums maybe a good idea, but as said in the article “it means that lending our voice to the voiceless matters.” We as people need to do the right thing for the animal not for the exploitation of them. I agree seeing animals in person rather than a picture and or a video is much more breathtaking and can be educational for kids. For the animals they are not in there natural habitat and are not able to do the natural things they would in the environments. Maybe meeting halfway for the people who agree with Zoos and other facilities for animals won’t be enough. For example in the article it says “... increase the quality of life in captivity,…

Orcas, also known as killer whales, have been in captivity for over fifty years. The magnificent stunts the animals are trained to do is jaw dropping. Killer whales, on the other hand, do not seem to feel the same positive regard. Infact, they have killed or injured more than one-hundred people during their stay in captivity. Keeping killer whales in captivity not only threatens the whales, but harms humans as well.…
