Why is sleep so important in everyone's daily lives? Sleep matters because not only does it give you energy, it makes sure you function properly, and not get sick. If you do not get enough sleep you could gain weight. Yet there is also disorders that can make you not fall asleep. This is also a main concern in health. In the article “Why sleep matters” Barbara Kantrowitz and Karen Springen discuss why sleep is the most important for a child’s health. Barbara Kantrowitz is a writer of health and women's issues. She has worked at People magazine and graduated at Cornell University. Karen Springen is a journalism director, she writes stories on a variety of topics. She attended Stanford University. They give critical information explaining why sleep matters, they have provided great evidence in the article. …show more content…
The authors provide studies of students and the amount of sleep they have based on their everyday lifestyles. Basically they are using correlations as their argument. The more sleep you get the more your body functions and works well, getting a good night's rest makes your brain smarter. If you do not get enough sleep, your body tends to be slower not processing information as fast as you would if you got enough sleep. Also another correlation is that if you play video games, watching tv or drink caffeine your body tends to not want to fall asleep. If you do not do these things and relax you will fall asleep. The source of this article is in good hands; they both have a great college education and are working as writers. Sleep will always play an important role on the way one’s body functions. Doctor’s all around the world have had concerns on this

    Sleep is very important to the regulation of the body 's functions. Sleep is regulated by circadian rhythms. The circadian rhythm is controlled in the brain by an area called the suprachiasmatic nucleus which controlls around 20,000 neurons. These rhythms determine the ideal times for structured and restorative sleep and are generlly in 24 hour cycles. The exact functions of sleep are not exactly known however, those who are sleep deprived have been found to have weakened immune systems and poor brain function.
