time outside with friends because it improves their productivity, encourages a healthier lifestyle, and makes school more fun.
Taking breaks throughout the school day to go outside and relax is beneficial to many students because, as studies have shown, it improves their productivity when accomplishing large tasks. This is because the brain of a child rejuvenates and refreshes whenever they are not doing work. For example, if Bob went to school and spent 1 hour and 30 minutes doing Geometry while John spent 1 hour doing Geometry and took a 30-minute break to play outside, John would accomplish approximately the same amount of, or more, work than Bob in less time. In addition, studies have shown that children who take short breaks during a study session are more likely to understand the concept they are learning. This is due to the fact that the brain of a child stores memories in short “clips” rather than in long sessions. Just like how you don’t remember much from a dream (or any of it at all), your brain only retains some parts of a long session that you are required to remember. Basically, whenever a child does a large amount of work all at once, he does not retain all of the information. On the flip side, the child would be more efficient if he or she were to take short periodic breaks throughout the day. The result would be a more focused child that would retain more information than most other children that did not take breaks.
Many students also fondly remember the fun times of running around the playground in elementary school and playing tag with your best friends during recess.
This exercise, though short, is proven to keep children healthy; especially when children are in health class instead of P.E. At this time, it is extremely important for children to get exercise because they are not given any time during school to exercise. This issue further increases in importance, especially because students don’t have time to get exercise after school due to extracurricular activities and homework. Thus, the only time students have to get exercise is during school hours, and because of this, students absolutely need to get exercise in school.
Finally, students need to have fun at school by spending time with friends and meeting new people through sports. Students are guaranteed to have more fun at school if they can spend time with friends between and during classes. This free time will also let students meet new people and socialize with one another. Even though students can socialize during lunch, their movements are restricted as they are required to stay in their seats during lunch. Because of this, the students are unable to socialize and develop friendships other than the ones they already …show more content…
have.
In conclusion, students need to have short breaks throughout the day to refresh their minds, as it increases their productivity, lets them spend time with friends and socialize, and gives them daily exercise that will benefit their lives.
Imagine having to go to school every day and slogging through piles of boring Math, Science, English, and History books and papers. Without exercise to refresh their brains, the students are driven to the verge of going crazy, which is why students are so eager to leave school at the end of the year! Now is the time to stand up and say yes to taking short breaks between classes to go outside and exercise. Contact your school board
