The Germans attack during the Battle of the Bulge included over 450,000 troops and around 1,500 tanks and assault guns. On the American side the number was around 610,000 troops that were involved in the last major German offensive of World War II. The Americans took around 89,000 causalities, and then reports suggested that around 19,000 of those were killed in action making it the costliest action ever fought by the U.S. Army.
