-In order to equalize wealth and power, Communists would put an end to private property, substituting government ownership of factories, railroads, and other businesses.…
1. Russia overturned its conservative policies in many ways. Alexander II removed the serfdom. Cultural nationalism led to political demands and worried the state. Their lust to become as successful as the west led them to industrialize. The lower classes suffered greatly in this time period, and they demanded better living conditions. Since the serfdom was disestablished, the government gave them land, but they would only be able to leave if they paid off the debt on the land. Many things changed once communism took hold.…
The introduction of collectivization and industrialization by Stalin were both supposed to end ideological compromise and come closer to Marxist theory. However, many historians have made it clear that these policies created a socialist Soviet Economy which was the opposite of Marx’s theory. State control of the economy was a key feature of Stalin’s totalitarian rule.…
The Bolsheviks secure position as government was aided by the expulsion and banning of other political parties. This meant that all the authorities…
There were many consequences from the Bolshevik revolution. Farmland was distributed among farmers, and factories are given to workers. The banks were nationalized and a national council was assembled to run the economy. Russia pulled out of World War I, signing the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, conceding lots of land to Germany. Civil war, between Bolshevik (“red”) and anti-Bolshevik (“white”) forces, sweeps Russia from 1918 to 1920. Around 15 million die in conflict and the famine. The Russian economy is in shambles. Industrial production drops, trade all but ceases, and skilled workers flee the country. Despite the…
The Bolsheviks consolidated their power after October 1917 however they faced many severe problems which made keeping their power complex. For Lenin and the Bolsheviks winning political power was relatively easy compared with retaining it. The Bolsheviks may have had a temporary majority in the All-Russia soviet in October 1917, but they did not have a majority following in the country as a whole . Russia was in chaos, politically and economically, and normal government had broken down in large areas. . yet lenin was able to overcome these problems and hold ontopower to create the world first communist state. The Bolsheviks overcame these problems by use of violence in the form of repression, and violence in war communism and the red army during the civil war however violence against their opponents was not their only strategy, Lenin also put forward policies of reform which showed that they were willing to compromise their principles to keep hold of power when faced with early problems and after the outbreak of the civil war the disunity of the opposition and the geographical and organisational factors were key factors which helped the Bolsheviks consolidate their grip on power.…
Lenin and the communist party only had a vague idea how the communist philosophy should be put into practise. This included especially the economic proposals of the communist philosophy. The first economic ideas to be put into practise were reactionary and were formulated to please the Bolsheviks (the communist party). One of these ideas was the Land Decree of 1917 which was a radical change for Russia. It abolished all private ownership without compensation and all ranks in the army. In addition, most of the economy was taken over, on the behalf of the people, by the government.…
During the Industrial Revolution, factory workers received little pay, worked long hours, and never saw improvement in their living and working conditions. In the mean time, the middle class was emerging. They were rich because of the enormous amounts of money created in the country because of the Industrial Revolution. Marx thought that the capitalist system would eventually fail. He described communism as “a form of complete socialism in which the means of production--all land, mines, factories, railroads, and businesses—would be owned by the people” (649). He also thought all goods and services should be shared equally.…
Between 1800 and 1939 Russia progressed towards an economic system of government owned business and redistribution, known as communism. Prior to Russia developing into communism they were a capitalist state. The last time we see a non communist state in Russia before 1939 would be under Czar Nicholas II. Previous social conditioning in Russia led to popular beliefs among the peasantry that the land belongs to the farmers, or at least it should. However, a small number of the peasantry had owned any land at all. And they also had other reasons to hold feelings of discontent. The Russian working conditions were simply atrocious. Workers saw work jour of 12, 14, and 16 hours long. And the factories which they worked on were overcrowded and were obvious dangers to their long-term and immediate health. And for all of the hardship faced workers would see dismal pay, barely enough to supply for their family. However, what led Russia past the threshold…
In this essay I will analyse a combination of reasons on how the Bolsheviks came to power and discuss events such as the February and October revolutions, the fall of the Tsarist rule and the Provisional government.…
War Communism (WC) was of substantial importance to the Bolshevik consolidation of power. WC played a major role in the Bolshevik victory in the Civil War and thus allowed them to maintain power and control in Russia. However, from the Bolsheviks initial seizure of power in 1917 through to 1924, a number of other factors were of importance in enabling the Bolsheviks to consolidate this power. These factors included the Early Decrees, implemented Lenin, their victory in the civil war and the New Economic Policy (NEP).…
The soviets ruthless dictator, Josef Stalin, wanted to dominate the globe. Stalins goal was to eliminate every political party except for communists. He strived to create a nation wide dictatorship and conquer the entire world, by spreading communism. After violating their promises made at the Yalta Conference, Stalins plan to dictate the world came to the attention of the United States. Based on a capitalist economy, America sought to eliminate and finally put an end to the Soviet’s communist plan, in order to ensure the safety of the people.…
How far do you agree that the weakness of the provisional government was the main reason why the Bolsheviks came into power?…
On October 24, 1917, Bolshevik forces and their allies began seizing essential centers of power. By the next morning, the Bolsheviks informed the still- assembled congress of soviets that they had taken power in the name of the Russian worker and peasant and had established a temporary government. The events of October introduced a single Communist government in Russia for the first time. Non- Bolshevik newspapers were all shut down by the summer of 1918. All Russian industries were nationalized under the Bolshevik government. After making many promises to the peasants and delivering some, Lenin and the Bolsheviks came to the seat of power after the Civil War.…
The fall of the Provisional government and the Bolshevik Revolution sparked many changes for Russia in 1917. It changed Russia for always. The economic system changed from a capitalist system to a socialist economy, peasants were granted the land that they already took in the February/March revolution and it ended the war and made peace in Russia. The lead up to the revolution can be traced back as far as March during the February/March revolution of 1917.…
