Why The Constitution Is Outdated
When reviewing the constitution, there are several clauses that can be identified as outdated or could be reconsidered. An example of this is Article 1, Section 9, Clause 1 which states “The Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit, shall not be prohibited by the Congress prior to the Year one thousand eight hundred and eight, but a Tax or duty may be imposed on such Importation, not exceeding ten dollars for each Person.” This is just an example of an outdated clause in the constitution, but it is also currently unusable due to the date attached to it. I hold this same sentiment for most of the outdated clauses as they could be removed, but it most likely wouldn’t affect how we live our lives day to day. The extent of privacy mentioned in the constitution is amendment 4 “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.” This amendment helps protect people's privacy to this day, but it was also the only privacy really needing protection during that time. With the digital age we have now, we all use some form of technology and leave some kind of digital footprint. The issue is this digital footprint can be easily tracked and monitored by many amounts of people, including the government, and it has been. We as a people have a right to our privacy, both physical and digital. On one side, there is an argument that since we are using technology that we bought from other people and are using other people’s websites, that they should have access to the information about us as it correlates to their product.
