The video game world has often been a form of escapism for me from a young age. I often seem to stick to fantasy games that allow me to entertain myself in another make believe world where there are challenges to complete and an alternative dimension to let my mind go free from the common day to day stresses of school and university life. I much prefer escaping in a world and creating a new personality online where there are no boundaries on what I achieve compared to perhaps the more popular format of beating other players in shoot em ups or sports. For me video games give a sense of thrill and unwinding without having to go to the trouble of travelling far and spending the money to try get that real life thrill. Predominately whilst doing studies it allowed me to feel thousands of miles away from my academic stress for a few hours a day and bring me back when I needed to get work done.
How often do you play and what games do you play
The amount I play often varies with how much work I need to get done and whether I can spare time. Often as I explained it is a form of stress release, so even in exam periods I find it important to take at least an hour out of the day to play. The time period available often determines the game I play. A favourite of mine, if I have a large amount of free time, has been Oblivion. The huge map and improvement of graphics from previous instalments meant that for me it swept every game aside in that genre. If I have a short time period, I’d play a game close to my heart which is Tomb Raider. I love this game not entirely because of the idea of relating to a strong female character in a predominately male orientated industry but having seen it develop through my childhood it is a perfect game to play in short bursts and easily continue at the next break.
What Video game campaign have excited you and why?
In the previous question I expressed my adoration for the Tomb Raider campaigns.
