Persuasive Argument Paper
This, right here, is the beginning of the end for our great nation. Wal-Mart is taking over the super market industry and it is up to us to stop it. Wal-Mart is starting to censor the music we know and love without even alerting the buyer, taking away needed healthcare benefits, and taking advantage of workers by not even paying them minimum wage. This is why Wal-Mart is not good and must be stopped.
Music is an artist way of expressing him or herself, and Wal-Mart is taking this freedom from them. They are doing this by refusing to sell them as is, “some places Wal-Mart is the only place to buy CDs or tapes…censored CDs are proliferating in Wal-Mart’s bins, [and] in many cases without [even] being identified as such” (Source C). Wal-Mart is censoring CDs and tapes to their liking without even letting it be known to the buyer of such non-sense. Wal-Mart should not be allowed to choose what the buyer can and cannot listen to, if the buyer wishes to listen to a certain type of music, and are willing to spend their own hard earned cash to get it, than that person should be able to get that CD or Tape. Wal-Mart does not even let the artists or the music industry know that they are editing it. Spokesman for Wal-Mart, Betsy Reithemeyer, said “we do not talk to artists; we do not go to the recording industry.” (Source C). Now it is one thing to disrespect the buyer by selling them music that has been edited and not telling them, but not telling the artists is just wrong. If Wal-Mart is going to edit an artist’s way of expressing themselves then it has to be agreed upon and set up together. For all Wal-Mart knows, the artist could not like the way Wal-Mart edited it and try to back out of the deal or rework the edit. This madness needs to be stopped, Wal-Mart is bad and we need to stop letting Wal-Mart do what they want.
