3) How and why was Hernán Cortés able to conquer the Aztec Empire?
• Hernán Cortés was authorized by the governor of Cuba to do an expedition with six hundred men and eleven ships to try and find the kingdom where lots of gold was expected to be. Cortés was given a gift by the Tobasco people, and the gift was a girl named Malinali. Malinali was Cortés’ interpreter and soon became one of his mistresses. Malinali told Cortés about Quetzalcoatl the god of the Aztecs that will later return to take back his prophecy. He really did no want to pay someone a lot of money to maintain his land. In this case this is where indentured servitude comes in for the rescue. As settlers began noticing the size of land, they convinced people especially white male from England to come work as an indentured servant. If they came to work in Virginia for seven years they were promised, money, land and after the seven years working they were promised freedom. But not any size land they were granted the Headright System which meant different people will receive such amount which in this case they will receive 50 acres. Women had also came as homemakers that help clean. There were also children that came to the Americas as indentured servitude and they could not be released until they were 21. It was an important development in the English colonies for a few reasons. For example, tobacco and rice were items that made Virginia popular and as soon as it was people needed help growing more because it was high in demand. Indentured servants were also rented to the people that needed the extra help to grow more so they can make more money. Their tenants will receive have of the money while servants would receive none. They had the support of people that were wealthy, such as businessmen. Democratic- Republicans had the support from the low class, such as farmers. Federalist party was considered the strong government while the weak government was the Democratic-Republicans. The Federalist became one of two first parties to ever exist in the United States. Political portion of the Federalist was to have a strong power nationality and not only states. Federalists allied with Britain to become a strong national government and bring forth the judicial and executive branches. The popular political views of the federalist are that they are in favor of, strong military, taxes, and tariffs for industries. Alexander Hamilton wanted to restore the government economic debt. In the way that he would do this is by creating IOUs, and repay everyone later. To make his IOUs work, he created the Whiskey Tax, so they can create the interest money to pay all the securities. ¬¬¬¬¬The Whiskey tax is an example of a tax law that was not arguable that it will help the states debt and the poverty that the U.S. was going through at time. Federalist hated Jefferson as president 1801, because he opposed every situation that the Federalist favored. That hatred rose up even further because of the Louisiana Purchase.
