Imperialism became popular throughout Asia, and it was very aggressive in Japan. Though the Japanese believed that building their empire in Korea and China would help the Chinese and the Korean, it wasn’t justified. The Chinese and the Japanese both had their eyes set on Korea, they signed a peace treaty stating that neither country would send their armies into Korea. Then in 1894, China had sent troops into Korea. Once Japan caught wind that China had crossed the Korean border,
the Japanese sent in troops to fight China; this became as the Sino-Japanese War. “... War lasted for just a few months. In that time, Japan drove the Chinese out of Korea, destroyed the Chinese navy, and gained a foothold in Manchuria” (378, 3). After Japan destroyed Russia in the Russo-Japanese War, they set off for Korea. They turned Korea into a protectorate and the Japanese advisors stole governmental power from the Koreans.”The Japanese were harsh rulers. ...They took land away from Korean farmers and gave it to Japanese settlers. They encouraged Japanese businessmen to start industries in Korea, but forbade Koreans from going into business” (379, 3).
Japan was very aggressive when it came to imperialism, they ruled harshly of Korea and they destroyed the Chinese navy. I understand that they were doing what they thought was best at that time, but they didn’t think of the Korean’s or the Chinese’s feelings. They were harsh, they took Korean land, and forbid the Korean to open businesses in Korea. They destroyed the Chinese navy and they drove them out of Korea. It wasn’t justified.
