The need for the constitution started when the articles of confederation grew out of problems. It established a truce between states and had more power in congress. The central government conducted wars and was the final disputes between the states. It …show more content…
could not raise money and was depending on the states. Each state sent a delegate and voted with each state getting one vote. However, any decision required a unanimous vote, which led to an ineffectual government. A plan to reform the articles started with a convention in Philadelphia. Delegates from the states (except Rhode Island) went to Philadelphia to begin on the new government. Without the constitution this country would probably fall apart. Without it, we wouldn't know how to deal with punishments for crimes or murders. We wouldn't know how to punish them or how to run this country without the constitution.
The constitution starts off with the preamble stating "We the people of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution, for the United States of America." When it says "We the People" it actually means that the government is here to serve the citizens of the United States.
They chose "insure domestic Tranquility" because they wanted to state that there should be peace between the states and people of the United States of
America.
The constitution is still a very important document for the United States of America.
