Was World War I avoidable? No way. Because of the many years of fighting before that, even to the beginning of time, it is no surprise that eventually a war would come up involving several countries. The cause of World War I was also definitely not avoidable. If you assassinate a powerful country's lap boy, you might as well have dropped a nuclear bomb.
