In 1972 the supreme court legalized birth control for all citizens of the country regardless of marital status. The consequences of this monumental ruling caused people to be able to have causal sex with a much lower risk of lasting consequences. It also caused a bigger shift on the attitudes and culture of the nation on sex. This continues to this day with all but two of my friends telling me that they have had sex. The average age to lose virginity in America is 17. However, my grandfather was in college in 1960 predating much of the shift in the culture.
