William Ellis Research Paper
William Ellis was born in Salford, Greater Manchester in the United Kingdom. He was born on August 24,1794. He was born to two hard working parents. William was a missionary in Hawaii and he was also a famous writer. He made a big impact on the people he was a missionary to and has many well-known books that have been published. His books are about his life as a missionary and his wife. I picked him because all of the places he visited were interesting to me. They were interesting because I like traveling. William Ellis started writing when he was twelve and his writing talents were recognized very early on in his life. He married Mary Ellis on November 9, 1815. While they were in Hawaii they welcomed two other missionary couples. The three couples move to Hauhine in June 1818. When they were living in Hawaii, they had to return to England because his wife was in poor health. When they were back in London, he wrote a book called Traveling in Hawaii. Mary Ellis died January 11, 1835. After her death, he wanted to honor her and published a biography …show more content…
After he was accepted, he attended school and became a missionary with the London Missionary Society. After becoming a missionary with them, he was sent to work in Hawaii. After he was sent to Hawaii, he lived in different places on the islands. These places included South Sea Islands, Eimeo, Windward Islands, Pomare, and Tahiti. He learned the language and was able to speak with the Pacific Islanders. Since William Ellis showed an interest in learning the language and building relationships with the people there, they accepted him into their communities. The purpose of his time in Hawaii was to tell other about God. He did what he set out to do. He said, “We had made known the nature and consequences of sin; spoken of the love of God; and exhibited the Lord Jesus Christ as the only Savior to multitudes who had never before heard his
