The building which houses the Nashville Symphony is referred to as the “ Athens of the South” as it is reflects the New Classical Architecture within the 21st Century. This four-storey structure draws inspiration from the classical halls of Vienna, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Berlin from the 19th century. “The design of the Symphony Centre was inspired by the world’s great concert halls, many of which were built in Europe in the late 19th Century” .For instance, Barcelona’s Palau de la Música Catalana inspired Schwarz to create natural lighting inside and richness in the building’s exterior. Whilst Vienna’s and Berlin’s Konzerthaus, inspired Schwarz to create a series of gracious public spaces around each hall . The Amsterdam's Concertgebouw also inspired Schwarz to create a 29-foot-high north entrance bordered by columns. Schwarz states that “this is a thoroughly modern building wearing somewhat traditional-looking clothing” .
