The FBI states that “54.3 percent of murder victims were killed by someone they knew (acquaintance, neighbor, friend, boyfriend, etc.), and 24.8 percent were killed by a family member.” The evidence shows that this is logically the case in the Verbermockle murder mystery. After allegedly finding Mrs. Verbermockle’s husband unconscious on the bathroom floor, Mrs. Verbermockle calls her family doctor. Mrs. Verbermockle claimed that he must have slipped on a bar of soap, and she did not touch him. When the doctor arrived, he announced Mr. Verbermockle dead from a fracture to the rear of the skull caused from blunt force. However, if the FBI statistics are correct, then it is likely that Mrs. Verbermockle is the killer. Although…

As a result of effective administration, the departments come together to achieve a particular goal. An analogy of this method would be that of the mechanisms of a clock which has plenty of unique working parts that, when put together, will tell the time. As such, the roles and functions of police organizations will be identified along with their role as it applies to the law. There are various types of police agencies ranging from the local to federal level which will also be described. Finally, the specific role and function of patrol work will be explained.…

Riverside police detective Kevin Townsend decided to conduct a probation search on George Roussell’s home. The detective was having a very time trying to figure out where the Roussell lived. The probation agency said that Roussell lived in Moreno Valley, but the court system said that he lived in Corona. Roussells DMV address was on a Gould street in Riverside, but all his recent information like the local utilities and phone company showed that he was living at 8123 Magnolia Avn. Apt. 85 in Riverside. Detective Townsend made the decision that the Magnolia apartments had to be his current residents because of the utility bills. He also believed that was his home because most probationers and parolees give false addresses so that they can avoid warren less arrest. It compellingly ties the myth of black criminality pushed forward in D.W. Griffith’s The Birth of the Nation with what was see evidenced in TV show like Cops and in the media portrayal of police shootings. It conveys the corporations that directly benefit from the mass incarceration of black men—companies with like CCA, Aramark, and Corizon—as having more in common with southern plantation owners of the 1800’s than any of us would care to admit. Additionally, it surfaces the institutions such as ALEC which were created to undermine the regular american and benefit lobbyists, corporations, and politicians. But perhaps what was even more powerful was the film’s forgotten tragedies― one we don’t know, but should ― like that of Kalief Browder, whose unjust three-year imprisonment at Rikers Island led to his suicide at…

In the early 1930’s, America fantasized with the crime and criminals portrayed in films, newspapers and magazines. Movies like The Public Enemy and Scarface made the gangster popular, while the law appeared boring and ineffective. As a crime wave swept the Midwest in 1933 criminals like John Dillinger and Pretty Boy Floyd were made out to be the heroes of the working class by the media. The Robin Hoods of their time, these men justified their crimes by helping the ‘little guys’ in the process. The 1935 film G-Men changed that point of view by distorting the image of law enforcement making them look exciting and effective. Hoover quickly discovered that the distortion of the FBI through film was an effective way to achieve popularity in American society. Hoover supported the making of these films and manipulated the image of the FBI for propaganda before eventually providing a more realistic view in the 1945 film House on 92nd Street.…
