In the novel Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit, a girl named Winnie meets the Tuck family and she must decide whether or not she should drink from the magic spring and live forever. I believe that Winnie should not drink from the spring for many reasons. First of all, if she drinks from the spring and lives eternally, she will have to watch as all of her friends and family die as they age. Additionally, if she lives forever her life will lose its purpose. Also, if she doesn’t age, people will get suspicious of her and they will get scared and desert her. Finally, after she drinks from the spring she will stop growing and changing, like it says on page 63 “Left behind. And everywhere around us things is moving, growing, and changing”.…

One similarity between the characters is that they heard the mind-blowing news from the Tucks. Although they heard it in different ways, they both heard it from the Tucks. The stranger intentionally eavesdropped on the Tucks while they explained the whole story to Winnie. Another similarity between them is that at one point, Winnie and the stranger both wanted the spring water to acquire immortality. After Angus Tuck tells Winnie in desperation for her not to drink the water, Winnie does not want to drink the water anymore. Living forever does sound good when you first ponder about it, but when you really think it through, all of the cons about immortality weigh out the good things. Winnie thinks, “Why, she, too might live forever in this remarkable world she was only just discovering! [....] not one of them noticed that the [...] man in the yellow suit, had crept up to the bushes by the stream and heard it all, the whole fantastic story” (Babbitt 22). Also, we know that the stranger is longing for the water when the author describes, “his mouth, above the thin, gray beard, turned ever so slightly toward a smile” (Babbitt 22-23). This happened right after we read that the stranger was listening to the Tucks for the whole period of time. Even though the stranger and Winnie are different people entirely, they also possess a couple of…

How does a positive attitude help avoid conflict? According to Remez Sasson,”It brings optimism into your life, and makes it easier to avoid worries and negative thinking… you see the bright side of life” (Sasson). This shows that seeing the bright side of life will make all worries and negativity dissipate during tough challenges. During World War 2, many people used the method of positivity to endure the misery. From Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, Anne Frank tries to stay positive while in hiding. It was exceedingly challenging getting around without getting captured by the Nazi. Another novel is Dear Miss Breed: True Stories of the Incarceration During World War ll and a Librarian Who Made a Difference from Joanne Oppenheim. One of the many letters is from Louise Ogawa, and she, like all the other Japanese, had to go to an internment camp. To distance herself from the hardships, she tried to stay positive and think of the positive. Having a positive attitude is the best way to respond to conflict, especially during horrendous situations like World War 2.…
