Winter is one of Earths four seasons. Winter in the northern hemisphere starts on the 21 of December also known as the winter solstice and ends on the 20 of March also known as the vernal equinox. All of earth experiences the four seasons, however the farther an area is from the equator the more dramatic the season changes will be. Our planet spins on its axes, this axes is at a tilt of 23.5 degrees relative to the sun. The earth orbits the sun in a nearly perfect circle, with the axis remaining fixed at 23.5 degrees. These two facts create our seasons by varying the amount of energy from the sun that reaches any one area. The reason we have winter is because of the 23.5 degree axial tilt that the earth
rotates on. As the earth orbits the sun it creates the seasons. When the axis in pointing in the opposite direction of the sun it is winter in the northern hemisphere. The places that are closer to the equator tend to stay warmer. The 20 degree winters in Washington are different than the 50 degree winters that places like Florida tend to get. Winter is a season that occurs in the northern hemisphere when the earth rotates to a certain spot when the axis points away from the sun. By: Annabelle
