Christian rock music is not among the most popular genres with most generations. However, often times many Christian rock songs can relate to so different types of people or situations. An abundance of Christian rock artists have formed songs out of their own life events, proving that they are only as human as the next person. The song “Without You” by For King & Country is an inspiration song because the lyrics tell an account of a real-life event that caused agony and redemption to the artist of the song.
The song can portray a light of hope for couples struggling with illness, death or any burden. The artists of the song, Luke and Joel Smallbone, have mentioned before how this song came about because of an actual life event with Luke being so ill that his wife was concerned she would have to live without him by her side. This song emphasizes the fact that no matter what your faith or your belief in religion, you never have to endure those mountains alone. The struggle of handling stressful or even catastrophic situations completely on our own can be terrifying and overwhelming, it can be cause for behavioral health issues later on, it can essentially take all happiness we have from beneath us. Many burdens in life can completely consume a person to the point of madness and insanity. Although the song is mostly referring to a wife requesting her husband don’t leave her during difficult times, the song can mean so much more depending on how someone wants to interpret

It does not have a narrative or a straight forward statement. It is an expression of a feeling of ennui and company that helps to mitigate it, even if not with the ideal methods. This, and the other songs on the E.P. were all written while my girlfriend was undergoing intense chemotherapy. This was dark time and methods were bound to be less than ideal. We coped. We survived.…

Ludacris does a remarkable job of portraying his message about the struggles that some adolescents are faced with. “Runaway Love”, by Ludacris, featuring Mary J. Blige (2007), represents the theme of struggle through hip-hop and rap music. It is about little girls who are “stuck up in the world on their own.” They have to take care of themselves because the people they are around do not care about them. They range from nine to eleven years in age, and their goal in life, at such a young age, is to run away from home. Ludacris is trying to get the listener to realize the struggles that even children have to face because adults are not the only ones who have problems, like most people believe. He is very successful in portraying his message through this song. Girls at that young of an age should be enjoying their childhood, but instead they are forced to become adults and take care of themselves.…

My group for the music time capsule was Ashley Armitage, Dylan Bates, and Jordan Crutchfield. These 10 songs were chosen because we felt that they will be relevant in the near and distant future. Honestly, the way my group chose our songs was by each of us picking three songs from our individual lists and mutually discussing the tenth song. The first song is Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash. Ashley Armitage chose this song, and with very good reason.…

The song starts out with a strang questioning of reality: “Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide, No escape from reality, Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see”. They first two lines are rhetorical questions. They help establish the state of mind needed in order to continue with the song. The third line is a metaphor. It means everything is crashing down on him, and he cannot escape it. It seems to conclude that he is caught between a dream and awakening. The next couple set of lines are being used as transitions into the main part of stanza one, “I’m just a poor boy, I need no sympathy, Because I’m easy come, easy go, Little high, little low, Any way the wind blows, Doesn’t really matter to me, to me”. In the third and fourth line repetition is used in order to keep the lyrics flowing. The boy thinks his life doesn’t matter to anyone, his life is meaningless and the Earth does not care what happens to him. He does not care what happens next, he just wants it over; “any way the wind blows” him, he will go and it “doesn’t really matter” to him anymore. The next three lines show intent to kill by the boy, “Mama, just killed a man, Put a gun against his head, Pulled my trigger, now he’s dead”. The boy has finally come to terms of what he has…

“Merry Go Round” by Kacey Musgraves sounds like an ordinary country song but once the lyrics are read and analyzed listeners realize that it is nothing but. Ordinary country songs would be praising the small towns that the artist grew up in and displaying it in a good light but Mugraves’ song describes rural towns as boring and explains how fake the residents are, “Mamas hooked on Mary Kay/ Brothers hooked on Mary Jane/ And Daddies hooked on Mary two doors down”. In comparison Holcomb at first sight looks like an ordinary small town “with hard blue skies and desert-clear air, has an atmosphere that is rather more Far West that Middle West” (1) but once Truman Capote describes it with more detail the audience realizes that it is not a normal…

Prominent protest songs of the 21st century are often found in genera’s containing boldly outspoken and poetically powerful lyrics such as contemporary rap and hip hop. Garth Brooks through the powerful lyrics expresses the desire and hope for equality, freedom, and union. The poem passes on a message from a mother to her son instructing him that he must remain optimistic despite the obstacles that life can bring. The mother compares her life to a set of old broken down wooden stairs. Using the metaphor that "life for me has not been any set of crystal stairs" (2, 20), she implies to her son that her life has not been easy or pleasant either. The mother continues to tell her son of the obstacles that she has overcome by describing the old wooden stairs. She says "it has had tacks in it and splinters and boards torn up and places with no carpet on the floor - bare." (3-7)…

They are well suited to the study of musical form because of their artistic value. Op. 19b, No. 1 Andante con moto in E major was written in 1830 and is the first in the collection. The Poem starts with a metaphor comparing death to a fierce meadowlark, a grassland bird. The second line I believe talks about how one can be more than just gods wonder, muscle and bones, by overcoming one’s weakness’s. The mountain in the third line I believe can be attributed to Chris as its insolent quiet had brought haters and admirers just as his disappearance had brought hatred and grievance from others and happiness from himself, and like how the mountains aren’t softened or troubled by its admirers and haters, despite these feelings of hatred or admiration people had against his ideas and actions Chris refused to change them and never regretted it even after death. This poem develops the character of Chris McCandless and reveals a lot about his death. First of the complexity of the poem and previous background signifies his Chris McCandless was a boy who wanted to live for himself and didn’t want to be like the rest of his society. He acknowledges, through the poem, that by disappearing into the arms of nature he has hurt many people by leaving them. Chris knowing the consequences went through with his actions and didn’t repent them. By including this excerpt from one of Chris’s books, Krakauer emphasizes as a conclusion and clarification that Chris McCandless wasn’t a mentally ill, dumb or arrogant, but was simply an intelligent boy who died doing what he loved,…
