In connection, Wolfe and Nevills (2004), as cited by Tankersly (2005), describe that a learner’s brain as a hierarchy of low-level decoding skills and high-level comprehension skills. They consider as the higher levels as the neural systems that process semantics (the meaning of language), syntax (organizing words into comprehensible sentences), and discourse (writing and speaking).
