I have chosen the topic “Women in Leadership”, the reason why I have chosen this topic because I would like to find out some of the difficulties women face in leadership. What are some of the weaknesses found in women and leadership? What are some of the barriers that women face in the work place? Are female leaders any different from male leaders?
While women make up over more than half of the workforce, as you look at the organization there are fewer women as CEO’s or Senior Executives, why? Why is it such a big struggle for women in leadership positions?
As a woman that is looking forward to one day being a leader in my organization, I just want to research more about women in leadership. I want to know the success rate, as well as the rate of failure. Why do women in leadership succeed or fail? Is it their style of leadership? Is it their communication skills? What make women so successful at what they do?
Based on business insider women have an overall edge in effectiveness in leadership. Women are more effective once they hit the age of 40. So age is important in leadership as well. I will be interviewing 3 women that I know that is in a leadership position. My first interview will be with my Branch Chief, Michelle Hodge; Michelle works for the Army Contracting Command. My second interview will be Peggy Melson; She is my Division Chief for my organization. My last interview is my mentor Diane Curry; she is the lead Pastor of a church in Hinesville Ga.
Then I will discuss Marissa Mayer’s and her success rate at Yahoo, I will talk about why Yahoo chose Mrs. Mayer’s as their CEO. As CEO for Yahoo what are some of the issues that Mrs. Mayer’s faced, how did she handle them. What is Mrs. Mayer’s leadership style? I will then look at Hillary Clinton and her leadership style. How did Hillary Clinton become a great leader, what was her struggles as a woman in leadership.
