Throughout history change has occurred throughout the United States. . Change occurred for men, citizens with disabilities, and even blacks. White men were considered superior to women and African Americans.In the 19th century women were not equal to men in the United States. If anything women were not seen as individuals like slaves, they were seen as nothing more than property. Women were excluded with no given opportunities to change their circumstances until 1818. Most women were denied education.Once married women were “compelled to promise obedience to her husband”.As her husband, he would also be her master. After the divorce was finalized, the woman would be deprived of all rights as a married woman. Either married or divorced, women were taxed to a government that see them as nothing but property.
