Wonder Woman Superhero
Comics of a many varieties have always been for entertainment. Typically, it has been a male dominated culture. Throughout history though, comics have come a long way from focusing on just the male superheroes. We’ve been introduced to the likes of Wonder Woman, Supergirl, and Black Widow to name a few. Women in comics are so much more than just side characters, they are a force to be reckoned with. The first comic hero debuted on February 17th, 1936, and he was called “The Phantom”. He was created by Lee Falk. Shortly after The Phantom debuted, Superman came along (1938). Before Wonder Woman was a even a thought, women were seen as side characters in comics. Wonder Woman, also known as Diana Prince, has an abundance of super powers. These include flight, super strength, combat strategy/skill, healing, superhuman agility, invulnerability, and the her magic weaponry (DC). In her arsenal, she has her famous Lasso of Truth, which makes anyone who is tied up unable to lie, also can get rid of any illusion. Her Bracelets of Victory can deflect any bullet, and she can forge lightning from them (seeing as how they were made by Zeus himself). Her tiara can be used as a weapon, because of it’s sharp edges, and always returns to her, just like a boomerang. Last but not least, is her magical sword. Along with her phenomenal swordsmanship, Wonder Woman’s sword can work against any invulnerable thing (Moore). Supergirl (a.k.a. Kara Zor-El) is Superman’s cousin, they both came from Krypton, so their powers are fueled by the sun. She has the ability to fly, has super speed, invulnerability, heat vision, x-ray vision, superhuman hearing, healing abilities, freezing breath, and she has super strength (DC). Black Widow on the other hand, is not a full blown super hero when it comes to her abilities. Also known as Natasha Romanova, Black Widow is a trained assassin, who was given the Super-Soldier Serum to keep her in tip top condition. On top of her superior fighting skills, she is extremely agile. Her weaponry includes her bracelets, which contains a cable called the “widow’s line”,along with a weapon called the “widow’s bite” which fires an electrical shock to her enemies (Marvel Directory).
