Strength
Grip Dynamometer: The purpose of this test is to measure the strength of the forearm muscles. The only equipment you need is the handgrip dynamometer. The participant has to hold the dynamometer in their hand to be tested, with the arm at right angles and the elbow by the side of the body. The base of the dynamometer should come into contact with your palm and your 4 other finger should go into the gap and this will make you go into a fist position. You must then squeeze the dynamometer as hard as you can for 5 seconds without moving any other part of your body to perform the test. Your score will be shown on the dynamometer after you have finished. Repeat the test 3 times than switch with your partner.
The advantages of the test are that it’s very easy to carry out and you can get an instant result, it doesn’t take up too much room, it doesn’t take too long to perform it and you can do it anywhere you want. A big disadvantage is that the grip dynamometer costs 110 pounds which is a lot of money and it’s not realistic that everyone will equip themselves with one of these just to see how strong there forearms are. However the test doesn’t represent our strength in all of the muscles in our body and I believe that a different exercise should be used to test the strength of someone.
Flexibility
Sit and Reach: The sit and reach test measures your flexibility. In this test you will need a box and a ruler. This test involves sitting on the floor with your legs stretched out straight ahead of you and the soles of your feet should be positioned flat against the box (shoes should be off). Your partner is recommended into holding your knees down to the ground so you don’t bend your knees and cheat the test. One side of the ruler should be placed in line with the edge of the box and the ruler should be positioned vertically.
