Expectations and Experiences
According to Sutton & Griffin (2004), ‘pre-entry expectations’ is used to refer to newcomer expectations formed prior to organization entry. Another is ‘post-entry experiences’ to describe the experience, or perception, of work after a specified period of work in an organization.
New Normal Unemployment Rate
Recent labor markets developments, including mismatches in the skills of workers and jobs, extended unemployment benefits, and very high rates of long-term joblessness, may be impeding the return to “normal” unemployment rates of around 5%. An examination of alternative measures of labor market conditions …show more content…
suggest that the “normal” unemployment rate may have risen as much as 1.7 percentage points to about 6.7%, although much of this increase is likely to prove temporary. Even with such an increase, sizable labor market stack is expected to persist for years (Weidner.J., & Williams.J. C., 2011).
Qualities of A Student Leader
The Distinctive factors that go into the cause of popularity and influence of leaders are not so much physical as social.
Personality may be considered a social product, the adjustment tendencies of the individual to his social environment. In view of the place of the school in the development of personality, the kind of personality possessed by student leaders is of interest (Bowden, A.O., 1926). A Correlational study spearheaded by Wendy Lambert and her company (2004) revealed a significant relationship between servant leadership of secondary school principals and gains in student achievement. An even stronger relationship was shown to exist between servant leadership and school climate. Further, When controlling for socioeconomic status, school climate correlated strongly with student achievement in lower socioeconomic
schools.
Work Perception of Undergraduate Students
In the research made by Masjuan and troiano (2009), it was mentioned that student’s traning can be regarded as a change of state in their personality and can be explained by means of two main factors, ‘hygiene’ and ‘motivation’, derived from the work done by Herzberg (1969) on workers’ attitudes when faced with work.
Synthesis
Given to the related research provided, it is said that the job expectancy varies according to generations. Give to the fact that 12% of US workforce are generation Y according to Glass (2007). This Generation have very different expectation than its predecessors, the boomers.
According to the research of Weidner & Williams (2011), The new unemployment rate is 5% and was characterized as “normal”, this is because of job mismatches, extended unemployment benefits, employment gaps, and etc. The key factors that contributes to this are more likely the lack of motivation to pursue a goal, or simply their career path was chosen by their parents.
Given to the literatures listed, the study aims to reveal the undergraduate student’s expectation of their future career. Thus the researcher arrived with the following questions: what factors affect and undergrad student in choosing career growth? What factors affect an undergrad student in choosing compensation? And lastly, the type of work do undergrads assume will the have?
