working in a group
The contrast between working in a group and working independently
Nowadays, there are a lot of companies require their staff to work in a group but some companies also ask workers to work independently. Working in a team is different from working alone. In fact, working in a group has more advantages than working independently.
First, when I work in a group, I can learn many things from my colleagues, or vice versa. Each person has their own experience and they know how to solve the problems that they had before. For instance, when I worked at shoes’ company, I made a mistake while calculating the price, and I uploaded the price that I calculated in the system. Unfortunately, I couldn’t change or upload data again because I just have only one time to do it and submit after finishing. I got confused and worried since it would impact the company. I asked my co-worker who had worked there longer than I. She shared her experience and showed me how to resolve that problem, because she also had this trouble. I followed her directions and then everything was good. In contrast, if I had worked alone and I had faced this problem, I would have been stress and spent a lot of time finding out the solution. If the right price is higher than the price I calculated and the products had been already shipped out, my company would have lost a lot of money. Therefore, I could save time when I worked in a band, have one more experience, and I shared with new staff about what did I get from my mistakes.
Working in a group will also improve my communication skills. Every job has its nature and each person has a different character. When my team received new projects, we often sat down and gave our opinions so that our task can be finished perfectly. I tried to persuade my team members to agree with my ideas. Similarly, I also learned how to listen the other people. Conversely, if I had worked alone, I would have had trouble as I couldn’t ask or share my ideas with anybody else.

When you are working with other professionals, you must be able to communicate effectively. This is important because you will need to share ideas, feelings, any information you find that you need to tell someone else. Group communication is a great way to communicate with other professionals, as each person has an opportunity to get their point across and have their own opinion on things. For example, Btec states “Groups work best if there is a team leader who encourages everyone to have a say in turn, rather than everyone trying to speak at once.” Btec (2010, P5)…

    1. There are several problems within the company with regards to the turnover of staff for the role of Clerical Administrative Support. This seems to be a problem that has arisen through the recruitment processes of the company. One issue being that the person responsible for the recruitment of staff for the post is that they did not have the adequate time to follow appropriate recruitment process and the first candidate interviewed was employed. This issue may be due to the fact that it was not discussed with fellow colleagues on what requirements were needed for potential employees to possess in order to fill the position. Another issue is that the position vacancy was passed onto an employment recruitment agency. This is not a suitable recruitment method for the company to use as the agency does not have full knowledge of the job requirements. A clear job description needs to be drawn up so that the candidates as well as the interviewer know what is expected of them. Person specifications can then be drawn up from the job description so that the candidate is aware of the main job role and tasks as well as the knowledge and skills required in order to fill the position. This will also help the interviewer with the interview process. Methods that can be used to aid the interviewer in selecting the right candidate for the position are biodata, selection interview, rating, psychological testing, and organisational data.…

Groups may be defined in many ways, indeed providing an absolute definition of a group, as with much of the theory around group work, is highly problematic and contestable. However for the purposes of discussing groupwork within a context of working with young people we may define a group as a small gathering of young people. Group work may simplistically be described as the study and application of the processes and outcomes experienced when a small group comes together.…

In my opinion, group work is a type of cooperative learning that helps people to accomplish a certain task in a faster and more effective manner. Team working also helps to achieve the tasks that are impossible to finish by one individual. However, if people in a group have a lot of conflicts, group work will not be able to achieve as much as we expected. There are many reasons which lead to dissatisfaction in group work such as individualism as well as conflicts in opinion and time.…

This part of book contains following important information: the benefits and ways of working with others, making the group work, talking and listening skills, making your point, being an effective group member and ever dealing with difficult moments in the group.
