People do not like being ignored. You made a good point in class on how people feel the need to belong somewhere. I agree with that 100%. Personally, I would rather not get along with one other person, than be ostracized by a whole group of people. If you do not get along with one person, so what? You will not get along with everyone you work with. It is not possible to get along with every single person in an organization due to differences in people. What matters though is respect. Just because you do not get along with someone, does not mean that you should be disrespectful or discriminate against them. They discriminate subconsciously. Not everyone is the same. If people were the same, everyone would get along. Regrettably this is not the case. As pointed in the slide, differences lead to miscommunication, misunderstanding, and conflict. If people were more aware of discrimination and open to diversity, as well as be able to set their differences aside, they would be able to function efficiently and be able to get any task set in front of them done. People have to learn to be more understanding and be more patient with different kinds of people; otherwise, the organization would not be able to function properly as a unit. In life, whether it is in the workplace or in another social setting, people will always have to deal with differences, whether it is based on age, race and ethnicity, gender, personality, values, attitudes, and so on.
