This essay consists of the research done on works of art: Ara Pacis, which is located in Rome and Panthenon, which is located in Athens. The purpose of the essay was to do research on both and compare and contrast them. Both works of art have been constructed in a fascinating way, and have been significant since the time they were built until now. They both are visited by hundreds of tourists every day because of their importance in culture, beauty and purpose.

It’s located in Acropolis or (“High city” in Greek) of Athens and has been there for almost 2,500 years. The purpose of it was to thank the Greek Goddess Athena for rescuing Athens and Greece during the Persian War. The original name of the temple was “Temple of the Athena the Virgin”. Since the time it was built, it was used for several purposes such as keeping treasure, later in years it served as a church and after the Ottoman take over it was used as a mosque. Throughout the history it has been one of the most important buildings and every day thousands of tourists approach this beauty, in order to see the unique historical construction. On the right side Aeneas, who is the mythical founder of Rome is performing a sacrifice, and on the left side the discovery of Romulus and Remus. The Eastern side of it is normally recognized as Tellus, or Mother Earth and usually refers to the central figure. It was characterized as a personification of Italy, as Venus genitrix (Aeneas' divine mother) or for Peace which shows that such details tend to represent peace. In the Parthenon, Some scholars believe that it is the procession which took place in the same period as the temple was built, and that this illustrates the confident spirit of the Athenians, who dared to put themselves where ordinarily only gods and heroes might be found. In the Ara Pacis the vegetal friezes show us fifty identified species, which can be interpreted symbolically as well. The symbolic meaning behind it is the rebirth and success of Augustus. On the north and south sides, clerics, religion chaperons, judges, and chronicled men, ladies and youngsters are gathered into columns of figures.
