World Population and Dr. Coy

Overpopulation In the United States of America, there are currently 3.1 billion Americans living lives of happiness. In the entire world there are currently 7 billion people living. Our biggest oncoming issue is the thought of Overpopulation. We learned about the thought of overpopulation from Dr. Coy’s Core Lecture which instead of giving us examples of humans, she showed us how rabbits can reproduce rapidly and humans are starting to relate. I do not think people have fully sought out the potential dangers of Overpopulation let alone even thought about it. It is a serious issue that we the people need to do something about in order to get it under control. Even if we have to make a law that stats that families cannot have more than a certain amount of kids, whatever we have to do to get overpopulation under control them in my eyes we need to do it.
The biggest problem in Overpopulation is rapid increase in the number of people. If the world population continued to grow at the current rate, the earth would not be able to sustain its population and the number of people will decrease. In Dr. Coy’s lecture about Understanding Growth, she said, “From the time of the earliest humans until about 10,000 years ago, the world population probably never exceeded 2 million. The human population grew faster after the invention of agriculture. After the industrial revolution, the human population began to follow an exponential growth curve.” The world’s population was growing at a slow but steady increase. Once the industrial revolution hit and the baby boomers came along, our population is now increase at such a rapid pace we cannot stop it and we are leading ourselves into a crisis we might not be able to control.
Another problem we face in overpopulation is shortage of resources. For instance, when the numbers of people increases, the more resources we will need to survive causing us to use more and then running out. Resources are starting to become scarce as it is.
