During a retailing course while I was studying bachelors, we were supposed to do a project on selling; the basic idea of the project was to sell products to a target group which was limited to college students who usually were from the age group of 18-25, the skills and strategies that were being taught on selling were to be implemented to gain customers from the target group within a limited budget and a competitive profit was to be generated.
We were divided into group consisting of 5 members (3 male 2 females), I was not elected as the leader but being the first one to organize the group and come up with ideas and strategies that would help us achieve the objective made me leader by default. I had been leading mates in earlier projects and presentations. Earlier I had been efficient in structuring and motivating group members and instructed them to work in a disciplined way and fulfill the requirement of any task that had been given.
In order to be competitive we had to come up with products which would be our competitive advantage over others. In other words the products offered had to be unique and the ideas should strictly entertain the target age group. There were numerous views discussed by the group, each members’ content of cognition was different than others. Final decision made was to sell customized T-shirts; every customer could choose their design or phrases to be drawn on shirts for any color of a t-shirt with a low price and to hire a cartoonist who would make cartoon sketches of customers within 20minutes. A week before the project started I divided the group according to the responsibilities they had been given. They were divided into operations, finance, sales and designing. The first step was to design the stall and make it attractive to

The company I currently work for is Henry Ford Health Systems West Bloomfield MI. And the President is Lynn Torossian. Lynn has only been with our company since December of 2013. Lynn has several leadership styles that have made a positive impact on me. One of the leadership styles that Lynn uses is Participative also known as democratic leadership style. While Lynn has the authority to make the final decision for the company she still values the input of the team members, peers and fellow employees of the hospital. Anther leadership style that Lynn uses is the Transformational leadership style. I have noticed that in the short period of time that Lynn is a motivator. She is always motivating us and sharing her vision of the future with us. Lynn also communicates very effectively with us through weekly news reports or via emails.…

Leadership is defined as “a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal” (Northouse, 2007). Managers, supervisors, and team leads are given the authority to accomplish certain tasks and objectives, however this power does not make a person a leader. This assigned authority only means that this person is “the boss.” Leadership differs in that it makes the followers want to achieve goals rather than bossing people around (Rowe, 2007). In other words, one can be assigned to a leadership position but one without such designated title can be a leader by influencing others to do great things.…

I am a leader. I have all the qualities that make a great leader, but I was not born this way.Experiences and how someone reacts to those experiences are what truly make a leader. One of the most influential experiences I have gone through is called the Lebanon High School Marching Band. I am certain that I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for marching band. Before coming to high school I already had leadership qualities, but band helped bring all those great qualities together and helped me get past my two major flaws: my lack of self-confidence and the fact that I was probably one of the shyest people you would EVER meet. When I joined marching band, I spent most of my waking hours sweating and suffering alongside wonderful people that I longed to…

Leadership is one of the qualities where i have the least experience of. I have had many opportunities with being a leader of a group or a work environment but only for a short period of time. As part of my assignment group I found myself falling more into the three different roles such as complete finisher, co-ordinator and implementer as Belbin described (Mullin, 2013, p. 336) this means I was always analysing details of the project that some of my team members fail to do so, I was focusing on our objectives and tried to direct the team towards them and also was determined to implement ideas into practice such as designing the template app idea for our project, designing the marketing video and our advert. However I believe I somehow undertook the role of a group leader too from the start because as soon as we formed our group and started to have meetings I always seemed to guide everyone on what they should focus their work on in that particular week . Furthermore, I quickly realised that it’s essential for me as…

A leader is a person who represents the whole class and motivate them. I did not believe I was a leader. During my freshman and sophomore year of high school, I was a quiet spoken individual who listens to what others have to say. It was not that I did not have anything to say, but it was the fear of saying something wrong and others disregarding what I had to say. I did several presentations in high school that made speaking in front of people more easier. However, I was still the timid person who wanted desperately to break my shell but did not know how. A shocking moment had occurred when I had became secretary of Zonta Club. It was junior year and I was surprised to have been part of the leadership team. I was able to discuss my ideas and to speak with the members at ease. It was my breaking point. I was given a privilege to be part of something that made a change. I was not just the soft spoken person, but I was a leader…

One time I took a leadership role that was the most relevant to me was when I was the leader in my robotics team in high school. I needed to take the role because everyone else seemed lost and I was the only one with previous robotics experience so I told everyone if they mid if I become the group leader and no one minded. One thing I learned about myself by being the leader is I am very good at giving people specific jobs and keeping everyone on task without them getting distracted. Another thing I learned about myself is i am a strict yet fun leader because I know when its time to stop playing around and get to…

Since you are the leader, you have one job and one job only, to be a leader. Don’t take a bossy role and boss everyone around. Show respect for your team, they think of you as their whole thing, so show them some respect and not let anyone down and not put anyone down. My personal experience is, well I don’t really have one because I was never a bad leader, I showed my team what to do in a polite order and this leads to my next point…

Leadership is most commonly associated with group activity and group processes (Schminke, M. 2002). It is basic group dynamics that groups tend confirm, this tendency to conform may be either functional or dysfunctional for groups. To much conformity may lead to “groupthink”, a phenomenon in which members of a group tend to conform to each other (Schminke, M. 2002).…
