Write A Narrative Essay About Moving Into High School
My Father always worked incredibly hard for my family and I. Whether it be overtime or going in on his days off he always tried to work to get more for us. I always felt the need to repay his hard work with hard work of my own, even after he passed away. I was what most people considered a good kid but when he passed away I set out on being a great kid, even the best kid. I worked ten times harder than I ever did before in every area of my life, taking more responsibilities and more work. If AVID wouldn’t have been there to catch me fall I would have hit the ground. Going into highschool I thought I would just coast by in class like I had in middle school. I got a rude awakening at the end of first semester when my report card came back with straight B’s. It was in that moment that I knew, I had to try harder to get …show more content…
Once again AVID came to the rescue in the form of community service opportunities and encouragement to go out and join new club’s even if I was painfully shy. I eagerly took all the community service they offered me and started moving out of my comfort zone to talk to club’s in which I knew no one. My AVID teacher even helped me when I was feeling insecure about running for president of a club and I decided to go for it because of her. I ended up winning. It was in my AVID class that I practiced speeches to my class and began to build up my confidence for speaking in front of crowds. It’s through AVID I became the responsible leader I am today, the eloquent speaker. Yes, I did have the motivation to do all those things due to my father but AVID was the path that helped me get to my dreams. I can truly say without AVID, without the support and help from them, I would not be the person I am today and for that I am forever thankful to the program and all its

High school is a time when challenges are all around, the only difference is sometimes a person doesn’t see them even though there right in front of their face. For years I felt strong…

Looking back to middle school I remember the fear I had for someday having to go to high school. My teachers always told me how different and harder it would be when I went. My older sister was in 9th grade at the time and I wanted ti be with her when I went. But the high school she was at was different from the one all my friends were going. I always had a hard time making decisions and now I had to choose between going to a school with my friends or going to a school that would help me prepare for the future. Starting high school was a terrifying idea to me. Different teachers, class times, lockers, drama! I remember that I always looked up to my older sister while she was in high school. She had tons of friends, played sports, participated in student government, and went out for the school play. I wanted to be just like her when I started high school. In middle school, I lined myself up for this, I played soccer in the fall and basketball in the winter. I helped out in the school plays, and I joined the student government. I had a group of great friends, and thought nothing bad was going to happen.…

High school is one of the biggest transitions in a person's early life. You go from being at the top in your school to the bottom. For me, it was very hard to adjust to this change. On my first day of high school, I walked into first period so nervous I thought I was going to get sick. This is much like what happened during my transition into middle school. On the first day at Mazzuchelli, right before the first class began, I threw up all over the floor of the classroom. I’m not a big fan of change. To make matters worse, the first week of high school was outrageously hot. The combination of the heat and my nerves made me sweat uncontrollably. At the time, I felt very self conscious of sweating during class. As bad as these first few days…

“You’ll never make it,” they all said, my boyfriend, family, teachers, and friends. It was like my life was already figured out for me, as if I didn’t have a say. The message was loud and clear. They all expected me to fail, to settle for a minimum wage paying job, to settle for just a high school diploma. For a while I went around believing that all I could do was the minimum required. But then I realized that I was capable of doing so much more. As time went on I realized that I did not have to live up to other’s low expectations and I started making a name for myself. I knew that studying a little harder for every test, joining clubs, volunteering, and running for leadership positions would later pay off.…

I always strived to do the best that I can, in everything that I do, and this especially applies to academics. In 6th grade, I joined the honors program at my middle school; from then on forward, I made sure than my work was of high enough quality so that the following year I would be placed in honors courses. These courses are what I believe prepared me for my success in high school. I got a taste of what it was like to be in an environment where every pupil was hungry for an education and for knowledge, and I grew to want to learn as much as my classmates. I entered high school with courses that upperclassmen had that challenged me more than anything else had before. It was during my freshman year of high school that I realized that I couldn’t…

When I first stepped into Anderson High School as a freshman, I was exceedingly confident in myself. I played sports, had gotten good grades, and planned to have an amazing high school career. Freshman and sophomore year were a breeze. If I am being straightforward, I did not focus much on my schoolwork. I did what was required of me and got good grades, but I did not go above and beyond. I had always been told by upperclassman, “It only gets harder from here. Enjoy it while you can.” Now I realize what that means.…

During my freshman year of high school I received a letter in the mail. This letter was an invitation to play basketball in Australia, with other boys and girls of my age. The date was September 13, 2011. The letter stated that we would be leaving June 1, of 2012. Of course I wanted to go as soon as I read the letter, but my family was more curious about the trip. We did some research and figured out everything that would be offered on this trip. In my research I read of playing Australian basketball games, snorkeling, swimming in the ocean, surfing, and spending three days on Tangalooma Island. This was enough to convince my family that it would indeed be a fun trip for me to attend.…

The economy was starting to decline and like many other people, my mom got laid off from her job as an insurance agent for the St. Paul Companies. Between both my parents we lived comfortably for the most part, but after she lost her job things started to change. Finally my parents decided it wasn’t going to work and she had to find a more stable job. The only way to do that was to go back to school. So in 2006 my mom went to school to become a nurse. She didn’t receive and financial aid making paying for her college even tougher. My family had to make some sacrifices in order to help my mom go to school. We had to tighten our budget because we were only living off my dad’s income. It was scary even for me as an eight year old. I could tell…

It seemed like a regular school day to everyone else, but to anyone on the football team they knew what was at stake which was the Suburban One National Conference Title. This game was a MUST win. The only thing was that we had to beat the North Penn Knights who have history of being one of the best public schools to play in the state. They also had won the conference last year before the Conference changed, so this was an important game on this chilly October day. As the day goes on all I can think about is this upcoming game, so school lets out and we do our typical pregame routine which would consist of doing the following; eat a meal, review plays in the gym, take a nap or rest, and then walk out to the stadium and get ready. We know the task ahead of us and we’re getting ready for our moment to shine. So for the pre-game (as odd as this sounds) we would always go to bathroom at the same time, then I would put my head phones in and take a walk around the track as everyone else is doing their own thing. As time goes on and we’re getting closer to…
