heat wasn’t working. My room was freezing because I had my vents closed. Stupid mistakes. Something that is not a stupid mistake is this union. They not just help my family, but they help the community. What would we do without this union? Simply, be suffering a great deal. Another way that the Sheet Metal Workers’ has done for my family is the manufacturing of outdoor appliances.
The outdoor appliances include: rain gutters, siding, ventilation, etc. In other words, the making of metal. Personally, my father makes metal, but not just any metal. He makes large and small commercial electrical enclosures. Examples would be: push buttons, boxes, switches, walk in enclosures, etc. My dad just does a little job for this union. The Sheet Metal Workers’ also assists in the development of restaurant equipment, automobiles, customized precision equipment, outdoor signs, handrails, column wrap, and many other products. In our backyard, my family has a metal roof for our shed. Who do you think made this? Sheet Metal Workers. I’m very thankful for this union. Some nights, my family and I just sit out in our shed and listen to the beautiful-soft raindrops falling onto the roof [metal]. In other words, this is a ‘thank you’ from my family and
I. The labor unions bargain with the companies to insure better salaries, paid vacations, health benefits, 401k for the future, and to stand up for the working men and women each and every day. Therefore, because of this union, my father is able to take the time off work needed for his family. This may include: my softball/volleyball games or tournaments, health issues, etc. Growing up, I’ve never been able to look out in the crowd at my softball or volleyball games and see my parents. They are always busy with work, but I completely understand that. This past year, my father has been able to come and support my team and I. I couldn’t thank you enough for that. My dad has done so much for my family and I. However, it’s not just him that affected our family [good way], this union has. I am extremely proud of my dad for getting this job. I’m very honored to call him my dad. He is always working and doing everything in his power to help our family. Now, I want to be able to make my father proud. I am wanting to attend college without an additional burden to him and my mother. For all that they have done for me, I want to show my respect and my hard work by writing/applying for this scholarship. I’m going into college to study nursing and become a pediatric nurse later in the future. Please consider my essay for the Sheet Metal Labor Union Scholarship. I would mean the world to my family and I. Thank you.
